I thought it was really cool when a Bloodhound won it last year,

They should allow mutts. I mean, all of the breeds are technically mutts anyway.

Coby says he'd win, hands down. Part Retriever, part Pit Bull, part Boxer, part Great Dane, and obviously part porch hound.

Sweet looking dog! I would totally take him home! I was rooting for the Australian Shepherd since we have a grand dog of that breed. I was kinda thinking that pekinses (sp) was a bit odd. I know that the dog shows always cut the dogs' hair a certain way and the every day domestic dog owner most of the time never has them cut the way of the dog show. Cannot imagine having to groom that dog! I love the dog show...but hate the rules of making the dogs look a certain way which have in the end brought about health probs with some. For example, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Their heads are too small and as a result they die younger with the cranium pushing into the brain. (Just to make them more beautiful) We have experienced that with two relatives that have owned those dogs and the vets at VA Tech have just had it with the probs of those dogs they have seen stemming from AKC. It's heartbreaking. Anything not AKC, is better off health wise.

I don't know if you will be back in SW VA in August, but the 2-9th Salem will host the Mountain Valley Cluster Dog Show. Its really 3-5 different shows aimed toward gaining points to get to the big shows. There are continual 8 rings of dogs. No admission. We normally grab some to-go food and just sit and watch. The scoring of dog shows is so convoluted we no longer even bother; we just take a day and enjoy looking at all the pretty doggies (and really weird handlers).
