You're not rambling and it's nice to get the sports news!
First Flight junior Mason Dobie scored 41 points in last night’s second round road game against North Brunswick. He is now averaging 40 in the state playoffs having scored 39 in the opening round game. If First Flight defeats Swansboro on Tuesday, they will have to travel to either South Central HS in Winterville or Seventy-First HS in Fayetteville. And one more win after that and it is on to Winston-Salem for the final four. For many years up until this year the state championships were played in Raleigh and Chapel Hill. The very first state championship basketball game to be played in the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill was won by Currituck County High School in 1986 under coach Lucian Griffin. Lucian was my very first hero. He was the star player in Little League baseball in Elizabeth City when I was the bat boy for the VFW team. The gymnasium at CCHS is now named for him. He is number 20 in the picture below.
Also this week Dobie’s older brother, a freshman at MIT, was named conference rookie of the year.
