I cannot believe all the services nowadays. Cabana service, beach carts, VNH trolly, golf carts. If its not OF, Semi-OF or Fronts beach road. Im just saying back in the ole days my dad and brother in law hauled that stuff back n forth without a complaint! Sometimes more than 1 trip. Everyone was just happy to be there We are a lazy society. Now if its not a truck beach look out. No truck this year. We are OF condo. Thank god we are only 4.

Me either, Greg! And I live only an hour from Cape May. Wall to wall idiots and wall to wall concrete. You wouldn’t even know you were at the beach until you climbed over the concrete “promenade” And they charge a beach fee that is highway robbery!

No thanks!
God forbid the banks ever turn into that.

And don't forget to wear your beach badge, Lolli! I was yelled at too many times by adult neighbors, who knew exactly who we were, about not wearing a beach badge. My uncle's house was second from the dunes - they all passed by us at least twice a day! I was 10 years old and getting yelled at by those cretins!

As the guy responsible for hauling our beach gear up and over the high Corolla dunes for the past 35 years, I now enjoy paying someone $100 to do it for me every day. And I'm happy to wear the "lazy" label at this point. I've earned it. But it would come across less hypocritical coming from someone who's actually done the hauling before rather than point to her husband and son's efforts while calling out the world's laziness Wink smiley

My wife carries her stuff. I carry my stuff. The kids carry their stuff. Maybe try being a bit firmer.

Most people know that I'm not a guy who gets easily embarrassed ..BUT, walking to the beach with a paid crew of guys to carry my families stuff would be a humiliating experience for the whole family, especially if your perfectly healthy kids are there.

When my parents lived at Cherry Grove Beach, SC, the last chapter of their life together, they could not put up an awning on the beach and dogs were not allowed until after 6 p.m. on the beach. Very restrictive there. When we kids visited...we had umbrellas dotted down the beach for cover. We kept our dog inside until it was time....I'm guessing more populated beaches mean more rules.

Every dude in history has complained about how much junk a woman takes… everywhere. If it was more than 1 trip that was too much junk. You just didn’t hear the complaints. Guaranteed.

This dude made it very simple - you want it, you take it down and you bring it back. That's not to say I didn't carry a cooler and an umbrella when the kids were little, because I did. The wife had extras too, like a bag of toys, a blanket and towels. But once they were about 4 or 5, they at least carried their own little chairs and dragged their own boogie boards.

I watched The Great Outdoors two weeks ago when it rained one night. Candy and Akroyd were a funny pair in that movie. We had a little fire going, popcorn and I made us old fashioneds with grilled oranges... yum. Good date night.

Sounds great, G! Yummy! The best part of that movie are the outtakes at the end where Aykroyd is dancing on the bar with Candy's wife! And the music is great of course in the venue of the Blues Brothers.

An Aykroyd masterpiece! "Well...he's got the hair!"

We are right next to a public beach access. We dont mind at all. More kids possibly for my granddaughter. I cant wait until she sees the people walking by to get her reaction. Shes hysterically funny at 4 years old. Shes gonna want to know who the people are? Its her and I in the backseat driving down. I cant wait. She hugged me the other day when I told her. She asks when we leave often.

4 years old? Sounds like you will be having a great ride. Where were you when my kid was 4 and threw his beloved Elmo out the window while we crossed the Bay Bridge? I needed earplugs for the rest of the drive!

The problems I anticipate with my 4 yr old...
1. snack stops disguised as bathroom breaks. She did this last week...she wanted french fries. Mom said no.
2. Im not allowed to go into the water as a Mimi. She may have a meltdown because she thinks a shark is gonna eat me but NOT her or her parents. I love the water. She has said repeatedly I am to stay on the sand.
3. will be interesting if we catch a shark.

I am not ashamed to pay someone to set up a tent, couple chairs and some cornhole boards.

Spent years hauling stuff back and forth, now that we one a home I would rather the convience of not doing it. I don't even own the beach stuff anymore and not reason to buy new stuff to store 50 weeks of the year. I like supporting some local young guys who started their own business. I still have 2 dogs, all their stuff, fishing rods, boogy or surf boards, coolers drinks food.

But it is nice to show up in the morning and have chairs and some space.

I work hard makea good living and don't mind treating myself.

If it doesn't fit in my 4Runner we aren't taking it out on the beach.

I did my time humping everybody's stuff over the dunes and finally quit for good in '86 when I bought a Subaru GL wagon with a 5-speed, part-time 4WD (Hi & Lo ranges), factory: skid plate, armored exhaust & 3-position adjustable rear shocks. It even came with 13" 185/70 tires that would go anywhere in the sand at 15 psi. I had to drop to 10 psi once in some pea gravel near a steep ramp coming off the beach around Corolla.

I still sort of miss that little car with its fully independent suspension and smooooth ride across the beach ruts. The front subframe rusted out after 14 years. It was worth every penny of the $11k I paid for it otd in D.C.
