An ode to Sarah Shrimp

#Sarah was our caregiver back in the late 50's. She cooked, cleaned and otherwise just loved us. Although I could never understand the love of shad roe, my mother loved it and Sarah cooked it. But the one thing she brought to the table was Sarah shrimp. Very simple, 1# of shrimp, 1 egg and an entire bottle of texas pete. flour, fry (in crisco, nothing else works) and in the early days we would drown in them in "goop" back then a mixture of mayonnaise and ketchup

For the last 30 years, I have replicated the recipe the last day of our vacation. I have now replaced "goop" with buxton munch white sauce and Pops cocktail sauce. ODG it doesn't get better than that.

I am tech stupid but here is a pic from last year. Honestly its nothing more than fried shrimp but it is 50 years of family history, love and the addition of Buxton Munch/Pops into the mix.

Its a shame that at our age we really shouldn't eat like this. 20 years ago we did 3LBS and quaffed many beers during the eating. Now its a pound and water....... sigh. getting old sucks.

But I also found a simple scampi recipe that has become our first day dinner that isn't too calorie heavy, I think I posted it, but let me see if I can repost it

Sounds great and I would love the recipe! Yep... no drinking during the week days for us! We try to hold out for the weekends! Too much beer adds the lbs! Too old for that and it will totally do you in! I also have a fabulous shrimp curry recipe that my mother in law gave me 40 years ago. My hubby loves it and licks the plate!

-1.5 pounds of shrimp...I buy the pre cooked shelled with tails on and take off tails ...buy it at Kroger partially frozen and let it thaw in the fridge
-2 and one quarter teaspoon curry powder
-1/2 cup green pepper
-Dash ginger
-One quarter teaspoon salt
-1/2 to 3/4 cup sour cream
-2 tablespoons butter
-1 tsp lemon juice
-Dash of ground pepper
-1 can of shrimp soup(can only find it at Food Lion where I am and if can't find, use cream of celery)

-Cook onions, green pepper in butter until tender.
-Add soup, ginger, lemon, and S & P.
-Add cooked shrimp, sour cream and curry.
Heat and serve over rice.

I have never really been into Indian food
..aka curry...but this is devine! My daughter tried to talk me onto lamb once in Chicago...and I thought I was gonna get sick. But, I do love the curry spice.

Oh...i.left out the onions..
1/2 Cup of onions......

Sorry!

But...try this recipe! So simple and the fam will love.

ODG that looks fabulous....

Shrimp soup - yep, I used to be able to find it locally at food lion, but no longer. For a while we could find it at WalMart, but again, no longer. I saw it on the shelf at Connor's and I swear I bought it all.

But to my dismay, it really does have a shelf life. I completely screwed up a dish for a friend using old soup. Wouldnya think that a Campbells condensed soup would at least last as long as a Twinkie?

Yeah, I know I can make it from scratch (and have), but at this point in my life, opening a can is preferable. And dear god, being able to make a flounder pontchartrain at a beach rental without a lot of supplies works for me.

Next time I do an amazon order I will hit you up and we can split a case

Thanks and it is so easy! We need your shrimp scampi one!!! I'm sure it's delicious!

That is funny about the campbell soups....you would think they would last (I gotta start checking dates in my pantry!) And I'm with you on opening cans. Just makes life simpler! I actually use Campbell's cheddar cheese soup for my scalloped potatoes as they come out creamier.
