Starlink sighted

At approximately10:00 pm on Thursday evening a row of blinking lights traveled roughly West to East across the SE sky over Hatteras village. Anyone else ever see Elon Musk's Starlink chain of 46 satellites? Absolutely freaky.

I’ve never seen Starlink there, but have seen almost a dozen SpaceX launches which are awesome! I will need to look up the Starlink viewing schedule when I’m down next.

Yep! In my best “fantasy island voice” …The train, the train!

They never disappoint, there was also a starlink train last (Weds) night.

I saw one of the first a few years before people knew what they were. I called my wife outside to look and she was worried enough to call someone who would tell us if the USA was being attacked. Eerie to see one when you don't know what it is!

It was one of the most startling night sky sights I have ever witnessed. Several members and I were outside after wrapping up the monthly meeting of the Hatteras Chapter of the Flat Earth Society when we witnessed the chain of blinking lights. It moved very slowly, and the evening was clear. One of our FES members quickly called the Raleigh Chapter and was assured by the regional president that it was merely a projection on the dome by the government and probably originated in Harvey Point or Dam Neck. I have to admit, I was almost convinced it was real.

We saw it from our back deck in Corolla last summer. We had no idea what it was...so, we thought we were being invaded by aliens. If you don't know what it is, it will freak you out!!! Laughing smiley

For those down/up/over visiting, there's another "train" tonite (was one last night as well). Should be visible around 9:40ish.

We have fam visiting and they got a chance to experience their first "oh my gosh, WHAT is that" moment.

Thanks. Perfect viewing from the end of Pole Rd. looking across the Hatteras Inlet toward Ocracoke. Hope it's dark enough.

Tim, if I may, what location did you use on the app? "closest" we've found is Elizabeth City (hence the "ish" start)...

Thanks!

He's using the Find Starlink app. When you open it you can select "by coordinates" and then click find visible times. It's pretty accurate.

Copy and thank you. Yes, I use the app but failed to see lat/long was an entry option - my "closest" brings up EC...lat/long nails it smiley

I'm glad we made the effort to see it because it a great show......directly overhead.....and the skies were clear. We marveled at the greatness of man in conquering space while questioning mankind's inability or unwillingness to solve seemingly simpler problems on earth.....then we went to bed.

Yeah, things are sometimes funny (not ha ha) that way.

Some folks in a rental nearby were pretty much convinced it was a UFO...

Another chance tonight at 8:41 pm. It won't be overhead tonight, up only 30° (last night it was almost 80°)

While the skies were not quite as clear as Sunday night - Starlink provided a good show last night from Hatteras Village. This is our third viewing and it is still eerie to fathom what you are seeing. This could be a habit forming activity.
