Rinsing Down Beach Chairs?

I've just returned from two perfect weeks on Ocracoke. Weather and ocean were both perfect for all our beach days.

My question is about rinsing and/or cleaning hour chairs. Usually we set up the chairs and umbrellas on our (Connecticut, but not on the coast) driveway and then hose them down. We let them air dry before we pack them to to store them.

Does anyone ever use WD-40 to lubricate the legs and displace water/sand? My fear is not so much the stain on the chair, but that I'd sit in it (even a year from now) and ruin my bathing suit. (Or at least walk on the beach with a huge stain on my butt.)

One of the chairs is your standard backpack chair, but the other is a Kijaro Dual Lock Camping Chair and I want to make sure the locking mechanism continues to work. (I have checked the manufacturer website, but there are no cleaning directions.) The legs are steel.

How do you all do this?

The Kijaro Dual Locking mechanism requires years of training and discipline to master....I suggest you put it down slowly, back away from it and immerse yourself completely in WD40 in a baptismal manner before proceeding any further...

I really enjoy reading your posts knowing that you don't drink. Hilarious.

Don't use WD-40 or anything oily or greasy on it. It will make the sand stick to it next time, guaranteed.

I wash our stuff thoroughly with fresh water, just like you do, and allow it all to dry completely in the sun. Then everything gets packed up and stored until the next trip. I have never lubricated anything but if I did, I would use a silicone spray that dries to a clear and slick coating that sand won't stick to.

We take an old tide or gain detergent container with us to the beachfront filled with fresh water and splash it on chair legs when leaving the beach front. When we get home, we hose off the chairs and such and they seem to be hanging in there.

I've basically done the same (see pic) LOL! Never lubricated them. However, I do run a damp cloth over the chairs and umbrellas, boogie boards, as only hosing them down doesn't get all the sand. After air drying, I'll take a dry cloth to go over it one more time and also use the leaf blower quickly on them; wrap them up in a tarp; store in the garage loft and bring them out for the next trip; air them out again; do a quality check; pack them in the car and see how much sand I missed as it falls off on the bed of my vehicle. Really interesting thread. I don't believe I have ever rinsed a beach chair ...... but this is what I use as a beach chair. I just shake the sand off them and throw them in the back of the truck.

The best thing to do with WD 40 is to not use it for anything. Kerosene and liquid wax = bad

Except, oddly enough, rubbing down a SS grill. Mfg recommended, I'd have never thunk it.

Thanks all.

I have resisted the WD-40 and used fresh water and a cloth.

Amusing P.S.
About 30 years ago, Joe Namath did a commercial for a then-new product, FlexAll-454 (link to the commercial below) for topical muscle pain (like Ben-Gay). I bought some and routinely referred to it at home as WD-40. Maybe ten years ago, my SO was having some muscle pain (that turned out to be intercostal neuralgia, but I digress) and had a conversation with the doctor. He asked if she was treating it with anything: "Yes," she said. "I've been using WD-40."
Long pause.
"What?"
"WD-40. I rub it in."
"What?!"
This went on for a minute or so until she finally realized that she meant FlexAll-454. The doctor was much relieved.

Joe Namath has an OBX connection. He married a local (Elizabeth City) girl. Her parents owned the historic Kitty Hawk Life-Saving Station when it was still on the oceanfront, and when it was moved to its present location between the Black Pelican and John’s Drive In. This is his mother-in-law and three of the books she wrote.

So cool!!! He was the best! He is still doing well. Small world for sure. I think he was married just once and had a daughter and has grandkids now.

I also heard that Bill Gates had a "friend" on the OBX.
