Jellyfish

Just got back from a week in Nags Head. We had a great time but a few days, when there was an onshore breeze, the number of jellyfish in the water and beach made it difficult to enjoy. I don't recall seeing that many before. Is that common these days?

Also, shout out to the guy driving the Outer Banks Electric van on Virginia Dare Trail around MP 15 about 9am mid week. I was driving a street legal low speed vehicle (25 mph), gave plenty of room to be passed the whole way but as soon as I stopped for a family crossing the street at a crosswalk, the driver decided to fly past me...fast. Luckily the family had not reached the other lane yet. If the driver is reading this, next time if you're in such a hurry, take 158.

Bummer. I have not noticed any jellyfish down In Hatteras.

Why not contact the company and tell them the date and time of the incident....

Jellyfish were pretty bad here in Kitty Hawk 3 or 4 days since Tuesday. After the 2nd day, the 3 kids (ages 9-15) all said screw it and weren't gonna let it interfere with their ocean time. Probably just a coincidence, but around the same time we had dolphins swimming within 50 feet of us a few of those days. Never been that close to them before. Highlight of the week for sure.

"At" or "in"? Regrettably makes a big dif...shouldn't, but it does.

On jellies, just pack a little vinegar and keep a credit card (something to scrape the nettles) handy. That and keep your eyes closed under water if actively swimming (moving through the water)....nettles are a bit ouchy if touch your face, but NOTHING like in your eye.

Scole, sorry about the bad reaction from the electrician, but the posted speed limit is 35 on the beach road. Those open carts are better used in neighborhoods than as transportation on a busy road. Its likely you made a busy tradesman pretty angry.

I think the days are numbered for these things. It's just a matter of time before a family ends up as a grease stain on the pavement. I myself would never get in one of those on any real road.

I'm not sure what type of street legal vehicle he was driving?

They said a Low Speed Vehicle (LEV) which in my experience is a juiced up golf cart with turn signals, etc. My folks have one in their community in Virginia and it’s a blast. I’ve hit 26-28 mph in it, but… it’s a golf cart and their community is residential with not too many streets or homes, and there are no through streets. You see them in South Nags Head a bit. There are a few places around that rent them. I’m assuming that’s what the OP was using as that’s what I have seen on the OBX a lot.
