In trying to avoid the traffic, we went the 460 route north to Ohio. Upon returning to our obx home, we had a thank you that will be $100 dollars letter in the mail. No barrels on our lane, but they were in the southbound lane. Lesson learned and y'all drive carefully out there

Did you use WAZE, by chance? And kind of radar detection unit?

And do pay that bill promptly. Years ago, late fall, my EZPass missed an eToll outside of Raleigh....bill ($.35) came to OBX...but I was elsewhere until spring. After late fees/penalties the new amount dues was mid $100/$200 range. Fortunately NCs DMV is pretty cool and, after evidence review, only asked for the $.35

That is very close to my home and there are cameras set up in that construction zone. The city is raking in the $100 bills in that construction zone and Interstate 58 as well!

I've had a couple friends get the same ticket for speeding on 460 recently. The ticket goes to the registered vehicle owner, not necessarily the driver. Supposedly it's just a monetary fine and no hits to your DMV or insurance.

I talked with a guy about those cameras. A private party sold the city of Suffolk on the deal for them. Apparently, the first 5 years, the city gets very little of the revenue, but the investor gets roughly 90%. The next 5 years, it is about a 50/50 split. After that the investor gets about 20% and the city will get the rest. Of course, by then, the cameras will be outdated. But the investor will be rich. And it does slow traffic.
