Hi all, new owner of a lot in Carova. Did the trip many times in a Jeep Wrangler but my wife is wondering if her VW Atlas can do the trip. It's an AWD SUV and has a billion hyped up different drive settings. Assuming she airs down and is not an idiot with her driving, will this truck fare ok in the sand?

We owned a Honda CRV AWD and took it out on the beach. One time. All was well until we bottomed out due to not enough ground clearance. I was driving in someone's tracks in the sand that suddenly became deep and that was all she wrote.

A jeep is, what 9ish (ground clearance), a CRV 8ish (same as Atlas)....is an inch gonna make all that much difference? (assuming air down and NOT some super aggressive profile tires).

Ten plus years ago we had a Honda Pilot that we took on the beach frequently. We never had an issue. Most people that I see in trouble do not air down and / or drive with a heavy foot.

Atlas has 8 inch ground clearance. Honda Pilot referenced earlier 7.3.

I would be very afraid of you going up the ramps to get into Carova. I am thinking you are going to be pushing a lot of sand and get stuck
