Heading down tomorrow, wish us luck!

Stay out of the water, the surf will be worsening late Saturday into early Sunday. I hope you have a great vacation but keep an eye on this one.

Mike's Weather Page showing models of enormous wave heights; has anyone else seen this? I will be in Hatteras tomorrow for a week, and this is concerning...hope I can get out if this forecast is correct. I guess just monitor and be aware?

Just be aware at this point. Surf will get rougher in 24-48 hours at the present forward speed as Lee makes a beeline for the Florida Georgia line over the next 5 days. The forecast beyond 5 days is totally a guess IMHO. You don't want to be driving north on 12 like I did when Fran was off the SC coast in '96. We stayed too long and the surf had breached the dunes in quite a few places making it a white knuckle ride up to Nags Head.

We’ll be in Hatteras Village tomorrow afternoon too Dhart. We’re staying at the Breakwater and our friends down there know more about predicting these storms than any weather service I can access. More importantly they never fail about when to get north of Pea Island. One time I believed weather channel, Accuweather, Windy etc and dismissed the boat captains at the marina. They said to scram by Thursday, but we were supposed to leave Sunday. Long story short, we got to stay until the following Wednesday (dancing Bob B Bananas!)

I'll be at Durant Station. If you see an old, half-drunk guy wondering the beach over that way, just point me in the right direction.

The latest prediction from the National Hurricane Center. Fingers crossed. This is good news for us. They will be breaking out the crying towels and emotional support kittens at he Weather Channel if Lee passes the US without major impact.

I'm headed to The Inn on Pamlico Sound Wednesday. Yesterday they emailed me suggesting I monitor National Weather Service, Dare County Emergency Management and their Facebook page and not worry about The Weather Channel prediction. Hope my only worry is if the tide will reach my beach chair.

Lol, I tend to be your way more so early in the am with the dogs. Any time afternoon I seem to stick to the other side of 12. Always try to be at Oden’s for the sunset though. As far as the storm goes there hasn’t been much of an opinion yet, Wednesday seems to be the day when they’ll be more likely to comment. Jimmy from Bonehead Charters is one of the better prognosticators down here, he’s pretty good with the weather too lol.

Lee has the “look” of Bill from August 2009. In Rodanthe, we had the biggest swells that brought in many expert surfers, surfing companies & photographers. Surfers were pulled by jet skis to the top of the swells… I had never seen anything like that! Serendipity (Inn at Rodanthe) was still the first cottage upon entering the village and it took a beating!

Island Free Press 8/09: “ Surfers were happy. The place to be was Rodanthe and vehicles lined the shoulders of the highway all day Saturday and Sunday.

Daniel Pullen, surfing writer and photographer for The Island Free Press, said that the surf was big and out of control on Saturday, though some intrepid folks tried it. At one point, surfers were being towed to the outer bar by personal watercraft.”

I hope those homes in Rodanthe are spared this week! Everything I keep reading, has warnings of the extreme surf conditions.

Like this one? This is the last ocean front in Marlo, I drove friends down there on Tuesday the 4th. They had two small bulldozers working on pushing sand away from the street side of 6-8 homes

Sadly, the Black Pearl is "done" (septic)...hoping it gets moved.

Psst...she's one of the lesser in peril cottages....further south it gets worse....way worse.

It's definitely looking similar to the Hurricane Bill track posted above.

Should generate some good surf all the way along the Atlantic coast, but if it keeps tracking west, things are going to get very interesting for New England, especially Maine.

Those are some awesome pictures, feels like we are there. Thanks for sharing!

Lee is moving very slowly out there. The latest forecast has it slowly crawling north all week, with Cape Cod in the cone now for a potential Saturday impact. Going to be a lot of nervous folks in New England this week.
