Dare Co just announced that the fiber optic cable to Hatteras has once again been cut. 911 services are down and our radio club is helping out with communications. I am talking with hams on Hatteras and they think it could be down some time this time.

They think it was at Pea Island where they had a dune breech in the last day. They sent in bulldozers and - they cut it.

There's a lesson in this somewhere.

The dune is gone. The cable may well have moved on its own.

At the exact same time that the Sea Level hit bottom leaving Ocracoke. We are all on Viper coms at the moment since everything is down.. She just limped into Swan Quarter. We got divers inspecting for damage right now. Perfect timing. (;

As many times as the fiber gets cut/damaged around that part of Pea Island you'd think taking it above ground on the existing power poles might be considered.

It was restored around 6:30.
