I've been a member of this site for many years. In my 30 plus years on the Outer Banks running a Charter Boat I feel there is so much misinformation, useless information or not enough info provided on Charter Inquiries, especially on Facebook. I would like to give some useful info when seeking a Charter Fishing Trip. This info is not meant as a Sales pitch or recommending any Boat. First and most important is not to just ask Which The Best Charter? Impossible to answer without knowing Where You are Staying and even more importantly What Type of Fishing you want to do. We have over 100 Charter Boats of all shapes and sizes, many only specializing in a certain type of fishing and docked from two locations very far apart. For example you don't travel over 2 Hours from Corolla to Hatteras. It is highly recommended you book your trip with the Boat directly, even more important is Owner/Operated Boats. There has been an explosion of both Sound Fishing Charters and "Deep Pocket" Corporate Owned Boats, with "Glitzy" Advertising, Videos and paid Social Media Influencers. Many of these are "Undersized" boats. It has become exceptional easy to get a a Captains License. Everybody wants to be a Captain. However, EXPERIENCE counts in making a selection. Furthermore, your Party Make-up and of course your Budget will come into your decision. For example there are many Sound boats that are 21 to 25 feet long, no shelter, primitive or no "Potty" facilities and absolutely no room to walk around. Do your research, talk to the Captain make sure they can meet your Fishing Expectations and needs of your party, go with experience and hopefully with owner/operated boats who care and have built there reputation on many years of quality fishing. Lets go fishing and enjoy what the Outer Banks is famous for.
