For the past several weeks our power in Colington Harbour has gone out. Maybe twice a week. Briefly maybe 1-2 minutes each time but long enough to require our 12+- digital clocks to be reset by hand. PITA,

Anyone else experiencing the problem?

Seems odd this is happening so frequently now because we have weathered many storms with nary a blink in service. USA Flag

We had a flicker of a power outage a couple nights ago during the height of the wind, but otherwise all good in Nags Head around MP 12 between the highways.

What you are describing NCSU Dad is a device used by the electrcal company to avoid blowing up a transformer or starting a fire. It is, simply put, an automatic reset breaker. A short circuit will open the breaker and after a minute or two, the breaker closes again. It will attempt several times to restore power before it locks itself open. Saves a lot of nuisance visits by the power company to reset a breaker from a momentary short caused by a tree branch, or an unwitting squirrel or bird touching a line. Our power lines here at home run through woods so we get the same type of interruptions occasionally. Beats waiting for a line truck to be dispatched.

Our entire street in Brigands Bay was without power two days ago. Lost it around 9 pm and came back on at 2 am. Didn't have my fan for awhile!!

I'm assuming it was widespread on the island...maybe not. And that same day, in the morning, it was out for about 45 minutes.

Yup, and then add in the massive amount of "salt mud" that has been accumulating seemingly everywhere and that x former turns into a block of salt. They are actually quite fascinating to watch sparking off (ok, we don't get out much smiley ).

The last few island wide outages on Hatteras have been planned, the one of a few days ago was not

Thanks to all who responded. Our transformer on the pole was replaced just before the brief outages started occurring at our house. Anyway power has been steady with no outages for the last 2 weeks.
Thanks again! USA Flag
