BANKSGIVING 2025

Thanksgiving is kinda becoming a big thing out here every year and traditionally we usually do the Red Sky Cafe' in Duck but are considering Basnight's this year. Never been there but I feel like there was positive feedback from some of you who have been??

Menu looks like I could dive in. Wouldn't be a proper OBX Thanksgiving without some Hyde County Fried Oysters and Greentail Shrimp!

For anyone who doesn't know the glory of Hyde County Oysters this is an example brought into work by one of our crew members at the Ferry who has a commercial Oyster boat side hustle out of Swan Quarter.

Basnights is a legit option for thanks/banksgiving.
BTW there are some amazing oysters there also the hatteras oysters this year have been amazing. The big farm just south of Canadian hole makes for good fishing BTW

Basnight's is my favorite restaurant. I would go there every day of the year and twice on Sunday. We went to their Thanksgiving feast last year. Food was good, but it was too crowded. Won't go again.

We have done Basnight's Thanksgiving takeout twice (both times excellent) and went in person last year. As mentioned, it was crowded.

The crowd was mainly felt at the serving lines in the main dining area. They have two rows of food service stations, both have the same items if I recall correctly. The lines parallel each other with 5' of space between the two. Two lines of people continue from this area towards the entrance, past the hostess station. There's a narrow ~10-20' section of hallway there that the lines must form through and anyone leaving the place has to go down this hallway. It was pretty tight, a lot of shuffling, and kind of chaotic when someone with a walker needed to pass, but it was manageable and everyone remained calm.

We went ~6:00 I think. We're doing it again this year.

LOL..you know it's crowded when you have to explain that everyone "remained calm". Sounds like a sinking ship.

I did want to set realistic expectations. Laughing smiley

After getting our food and making our way to our table it wasn't bad. I had room to standup and remove my jacket and move around without bumping into folks. It was just that service line that was a bit hectic. Basnight's is large enough to handle some folks.

We did have a water view, but we were not the table along the window. In case you've not been there before, the layout of the building is a bar area as soon as you enter, a very large main dining room, and then to the west side of the building there are 2 (or 3) smaller rooms like you'd rent for private affairs. We were seated in one of the smaller rooms. All of the rooms have windows overlooking the sound and I think from the smaller rooms, all tables would have a view. In the main dining room a table may not have a view if it's too far from the windows. The building is oriented along a NE to SW line so the windows face more SE than anything. Sunset views are probably not the best from Basnight's, but I've always been after dark.

And to be clear, the food was excellent as others have said. We are doing it again this year. The conga line to get food was well worth it. Be sure to scope out the offerings on your way to your table. Like a Brazilian steakhouse... there was some filler at the start of the line and some solid options towards the end.

Yeah, I've never been. We've driven past it a million times. It's kinda far from North Beach Carova but we will be driving from Hyde County ON Thanksgiving so it's on the way.

My favorite holiday. Enjoy your Banksgiving!

(P.S. - I have been sampling oysters from VA to Maine this fall and all have been very plump and tasty. This is a very good year for east coast oysters.)

You’ll enjoy the food, consistently delicious.
Beach Farmer - now that’s a beautiful oyster my friend.
