It seems like there is a lot more traffic here in Kitty Hawk and Southern Shores than a few weeks ago. I am thinking it is a lot of owners that came to close up for the winter and are leaving today (Sunday). When I rented, before living here, we used to come at Thanksgiving to winterize the house too.

I'm just thinking that more and more folks are learning just how special a sand bar Thanksgiving can be....especially if one was here last Weds and/or for Kites w Lights. There, my opinion, is soooo much more going on these days, versus, say even 10 years ago.

That's funny because I ALWAYS put heat tape on the pipes for our outdoor shower and a little thermostat controlled heater in our water room on the first floor on Thanksgiving every year. It's a ritual. If we are leaving for any period of time we leave on Saturday. Sunday is like summer traffic on Thanksgiving weekend.

A fair amount of activity in South Nags Head as well. Fall has just gotten quite busy over the past years. It's been like this for a bit. On Saturday morning I drove from SNH to just north of the water park and I'm not sure I ever hit the speed limit on the bypass between KDH and the bridge. Yesterday I repeated the drive, but went up to Currituck Sports and it wasn't bad. RIP to the dead bear just north of Grandy.

We still get the outdoors crowd but the demographic has changed.

The Duck hunters were out in force in the Currituck Sound/Back Bay/Knotts Island over the holiday behind us in North Carova. Sounded like....tradition. (;

My son hunts in the back Bay, BF, as well as Hyde County. It's his thang! He'll be down here in January duck hunting. His best friend from college lives in Chesapeake, and they do the Back Bay every year and mosey down here as well. He sure can make some duck jalapeno appetizers on the grill!

Getting to the point of this post, I have seen so many duck hunters in Frisco in January at restaurants and such....big groups. Such a cool sport.

Yes non typical He will feed all of us for a while.
Bent your post has motivated me and maybe this year the son and I will come back down and give it a try. I will say the duck hunting ferry ride to and from Swan Quarter is literally a social event. Everyone packs a item and we all sit in the ferry lounge and share going over and many prep a meal for the ride back to tell as they tell hunting story lies.
