Every year we all get excited. The reports from camp are great! The recruiting is actually very good. This will be the year!!!!

But here's the bottom line. We are a middle of the pack football program. We will probably (in reality) be about 5-7 this year. But in my HEART, at the beginning of each season, we are destined to be 12-0 and at the begining of each game we are GOING TO KICK SOME BUTT! But that's what a true blue Tar Heel (notice: 2 words) is and that's how we think!

Here's what I hate more than anything. I love Coach Bunting. He's an alumni, he bleeds Carolina Blue, he is as loyal as me . He runs a clean and ethical program. Heck we have 4 starters from last year that are not playing this year for one reason or another (bad grades, bad conduct...) I appreciate that SO much and I'm so proud of the fact that we do run a clean program unlike so many others. But...he's had 6 years to build a program back and it's not happening. Folks have been calling for his head for two years now and I can see that it will probably happen this year, and that makes my heart hurt for him. I wish he could be the man. I really do.

What I am left wondering this morning is this:

"Is Rutgers that good? Are we that bad?"

Our defense looked so weak. The jury is still out in my opinion about our QB. I thought he did a very admirable job leading the team at times, but the two crucial INT's killed us. From what I have heard, INTs are what cost him his job at Nebraska two years ago. We'll see I guess. The rest of our schedule just gets tougher, so it could be a long year.

But I'll be right here anyway. Wearing my Carolina Blue, cheering my heart out, and praying for something to happen that makes them want to win as badly as I do

I am taking some solace in the fact that Duke lost 10-0 to the Richmond Spiders !!

I agree that Coach Bunting epitomizes what a coach should be, just like Joe Paterno and Frank Beamer. If you can't cut it academically, you don't play. If this policy results in more L's than W's, so be it. Without naming names, we all know there are schools that aren't schools at all when it comes to coddling star athletes, who are allowed to "major" in such things as Connect-the-Dots and Remedial Stair Climbing.

As for Rutgers, their program has suffered from decades of really lousy recruting. Not only were they not going after standouts from other states, even within NJ they were only going after second-string high school players. That seems to have changed, and over the last couple of years the students on campus have become aware that Rutgers actually has a football team.

So chin's up, Renee. NC may not go 12-0 any time soon, but their program has integrity and the fans and alumni will always recognize that.

Hey Renee we watched the game and watched Jonathan getting to play for Tennessee. What did you think? Did you think he looked pretty good. I bet David and Janet were going crazy....

A little background..Jonathon Crompton who is the #2 QB for Tenneessee is the son of friends of mine and Sherrie's. We all used to run around together when our kids were little and we've obviously known Jonathon since he was in diapers.

I wnated him to be a Tar Heel, but UT is 90 minutes from their house and UNC is almost 5 hours. Besides, if you want to make the Pros, let's face it, UT will get you there alot sooner than UNC (in Football only!!)

Having said that- I thought he looked really good. It was a good situation for him getting to go in with a big lead. I'm sure that took the edge off of some of the nerves. I got tickled when he made that run really good run and was so pumped up. I agree...Janet and David were probably crazy

Rutgers is finally getting it together. Love seeing them take out an ACC powderpuff.

I guess that was deserved considering how our defense played.

BTW...Kentucky is getting beat 21-0 with 12:00 minutes left in the second quarter. Wanna talk about powderpuffs ?

My Brother played for Bunting at Glassboro State in 1988. Bunting helped him get in... My brother was a very hard working student who had good grades but his SAT's were just not high enough. He gave my brother the much needed push to go to SAT classes and get his score up. My broher had it settled in his mind that his score was not enough and he was just going to go to county college and not play football again.He loved him. Sadly my brother got hurt and had to quit football. But if not for Bunting he would not have believed in himself to do what he did. OK I am a Rutgers fan but I am a Bunting fan also.

Ah yes Renee.....Kentucky football. LOL They are/have been less than horrible for so very long I can't remember. Well here's a stat....since 1977 only have had 4 winning seasons! Yikes!

However we do play in the toughest football conference having folks like LSU, Forida, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn and Alabama on our schedule.

told ya those spiders were tough got a great new coach and a team of intelligent hard working guys...btw...i feel there are football schools and basketball schools...unc, kentucky, duke--basketball...vatech, miami, fla state football...i'll trade you guys when roundball starts...LOL...hooveeaaa...dunno...they seem to be able to lose at both...HA!......................

I used to agree that the SEC was the strongest football conference, but I think you could really make a case for the ACC now with the additions of Miami and Va Tech. We still have Clemson, Miami, Ga. Tech left to play in our conference division :(
