This is how it looked in 2003 along Queen Elizabeth Street. Poor Richards and Carolina Outdoors have been here for quite sometime now. Bradford pears line the street. Much better!

1983 along Queen Elizabeth Street. The Current newspaper moved into were Ace Hardware use to be. I bought my very first lawnmower at Ace Hardware when it was on the waterfront. Just thought you should know that. It was a proud moment for me.

Now you can see the green space (this space use to be Davis Department Store which burned down in the 1939 fire) with a view across Dough's creek to the Elizabeth II and the Waterfront shops and condos. Full Moon Cafe is across the street.

Sir Walter Raleigh Street 1977. The back-end of Dare County courthouse is on right. The jail was in the back on the other side. The Diner on Budleigh Street (Duchess of Dare Restaurant now 108 Budleigh today) would prepare prisoner meals. I can recall seeing people on the ground floor outside talking to prisoners on the second floor who were looking through the barred windows. Now the jail or Detention Center is on Driftwood road out by the airport.

The addition to the courthouse was torn down and the courthouse restored. Now there is green space for the public to use.

Hi Frank! No, I never ate at Bea's but would go in for an occasional coffee with a friend. I use to go to the diner on Budleigh more often. Maybe that is why Bea moved her business to the highway next to where the laundry mat is. Now that spot is a Mexican restaurant. Glad you are enjoying the photos. Hope more folks will post some here.

I really appreciate the before and after perspective. As a child, my family vacationed in Duck and Corolla. Unfortunately, we never made it down south...thanks for providing a way for me to catch up!

Here is the same view in 2003. China King. The town of Manteo owns the old Buck's Seafood now and the building is going to be torn down soon. The town is turning it into a water garden for storm water run off. The waters there are terrible as all the storm water has been dumping into the canal there for many years. Now the town is going to clean up the waters.

Fearings Hardware, clothing, drugstore and the Pioneer Theatre all in a row. Fearings all burned except for the hardware store. Endless Possibilities is in that building today. Went to the drugstore a lot to have ice cream, grilled cheese sandwiches and navy bean soup. My daughter's aunt use to work in the clothing department. Miss this place.
