I never had to watch my wieght, in fact, keeping weight on was usually the problem. That said, I gained 10 pounds at age 50 when I quit the hormones and another 10 when I quit smoking. So now here I am at 145 when my ideal is 120-125 and it doesn't seem like I eat much--a light breakfast and dinner which is frequently focused on seafood and veggies. Even the doctor said I would likely have to see how my matablism settled in and either live with the rolls or do hours in the gym.
Ok, so to the heart of the matter, I found a web site that allows you to enter your some basic information then set a goal. The result is a plan. For me to loose 20 pounds over the next 4 months it said 1,200 to 1,550 calories per day. What an eye opener. After entering a bowl of cereal, coffee, my daily intake of wine, and my chocolate calcium chews I had alread accumulated 667 calories. On the one night I went to game night and ate about a cup of pretzel pieces over the 4 hour period I totalled 2,300 calories.
Since I started I have been using the site to plan and to allow a treat when I am below the goal of 1,550. It also has an activity section and that is a real hoot when you go over and it tells you to revisit your calorie intact.
Anyhow, here it is. There is a free section to sign up.
