Though change is inevitable, I miss the good Ole days when they would flash the traffic lights on the beach road in the winter and most places were closed until April Or May............The flashing stop lights on the beach road meant it was "our time" to fish, surf and relax a bit.

Does anyone here remember Lances Bar in Nags Head or the OLD been made into about 20 places since 16 1/2 MP Bar? o o o, and the Drafty Tavern Juke Box In Lances????

God I am getting old.................

I lived on the OB back in the mid-80's, and Lance's was THE place to get seafood. Dead animal heads on the walls, a hole in the middle of the tables direct to your own trashcan, where you could deposit shrimp shells.

God, I miss those old places--Mexicano's, Gandalf's, Lance's, Milepost 16 restaurant, Green Dolphin in Manteo. Thanks for sparking the memory!

...but the mention of the "Hole in the middle of the table" brought it all back!

We used to call it "The Pink Place" because of the exterior paint color. It was dang good seafood, and nice atmosphere to boot.

It's been vacant/for sale for a couple(?) of years now.

While you're missing places, don't forget the bar "Atlantis" on the beach road right next to the pier! That was the only bar that I ever frequented that open up right onto the beach.

None of us are alone in getting old, either, so don't feel bad...

An old friend worked for years at Lance's. If y'all want a blast from the past...mark your calendars for Saturday, June 13th at The Pit in KDH. Mex-Econo's "No Class Reunion." I'd link the site directly but don't feel like getting banned today. Here ya go... MexEcono.com :smiley44:

A walk down memory lane, to be sure. It's funny to look at the fashions and hairstyles that were popular back then. Mullet's and stonewashed denim galore! (I admittedly sported both...)

Funny to see a "GWAR" flier from back in the day on that site. I got to see them quite a bit in their heyday, with them being from Richmond and all. Got to know most of the band some years later through a neighbor who grew up with Dave Brockie/Oderus Urungus.

Pretty normal looking dudes without all the latex on, but wacky to the core nonetheless! The used to play some shows sans-makeup billed as "RAWG". I don't see how they could play with all that stuff on to begin with....

Good memories indeed! Wish I could make the "Reunion", but sadly have other commitments.

While we are reminiscing, anyone remember the Fishmarket, where Kwan's is now. I used to go there all the time. Bud Light in a can only.

Mex-Econo’s tile bar? Why yes, now that you mention it, I spent many a winter night reading the National Inquirer at that very bar.

We used to pop into Fish Market occasionally. I’ve never been to Mama Quan’s yet.

Yep, Remember all these Locations...Lance's , with the hole in the table was the "go to" place in its day.... Capt Marty Brill opened a Tackle and Hunting shop in the building that is now the Cotton Gin -2 and the old freezor is still in the building! , and I still have a shirt with a hand painted Marlin on the pocket that I purchased there!
Also remember the Casino on the Beach Rd ( 2nd floor) and Drafty's Tavern, once owned by Capt " Big Al"" Foreman on the Causeway at now Pirates Cove. There was a pool room in the back of the bar that could get a bit rowdy at times!
Those were good times and the police would help you get home safely.....
