Pictures from 1986

As long as I can remember anytime my father took pictures he always had them developed into slides. When we returned from vacation, Dad brought out the slide projector and we revisited the memories we had made as a family. Dad passed away March 2008 and my step mother gave me about 20 metals boxes filled with slides.

In a recent conversation with my step mother I mentioned that my husband and I were planning a vacation to the Outer Banks and she spoke about how she and Dad spent several days vacationing in there. Well, today I decided to look and see if I could find any slides. Dad was very organized (thankfully) and it was easy to locate about 20 slides of the Outer Banks. I have scanned them and have attached a few. Some of the slides he may have purchased while there.

Hope you enjoy these pictures! :smiley40:

His references are Sept. 86 Lighthouse Duck, Cape Hatteras Seashore, Bodie and Ocracoke Lighthouse, Wright Brothers, Ferry and Morehead City.

Great photos! :smiley1: Thanks for posting. I hope when you have time you will post more. My dad passed away last June and he had previously given me 15 boxes of slides. It took me awhile to go through them all and pick out the Outer Banks related ones. I did the same thing...scanning. Your dad's slides seem to be in better condition. Your pictures are sharp and clear. Where is the location of the one with all the houses? Does anyone know? Here is a link to my dad's scanned slides from 1974-75: Click to follow link... You do not have to be a member of facebook to look at these.

Hi All,

I posted few pictures from 1986 on Friday, but wondering if some locals or regulars could help me identify some of them.

This picture was grouped with the lighthouse (Currituck, I bellieve), is it the lightkeepers house?

I couldn't upload all the picutres. I'll post again. How do you get text in between the pictures?

Thank you to all you commented and viewed. Stay tuned!:smile9:

That is the little keeper's house. Today it is the museum shop at the Currituck Beach Light Station. The house was completely covered in vines and hidden in trees and was discovered when clearing began at the lighthouse station in the 1980s. Quite the restoration! This house was moved, by barge, from the Long Point Lighthouse Depot Station in the early 1920s to accommodate a third keeper at Currituck.
