Making it happen...

I will admit (if you've seen my pictures) that I am, ahem.. a big boy. Always have been, always will be. I have always had a struggle with weight, and I have always felt utterly powerless to curb my appetite. My wife and I joined a gym almost two years ago, and while we went occasionally, it felt more like I was making a donation to the gym each month with my dues. Until a few weeks ago. For my birthday, my wife got me the Apple iPod Touch, which is basically the iPhone without the phone. On a lark, I downloaded the "lose it!" app, and figured I'd at least start by tracking my food intake, and hopefully get to the gym once and a while. Well, once I started, I couldn't stop. I developed a goal plan with this app to lose a specific amount of weight, and started really tracking my eating. I cut out all "solitary/boredom eating" (eating on the way to work, stopping for snacks during the drive); since I drive a lot for work (and always have), this was the biggest obstacle I had to clear. For the past few weeks, I have been high carb snack/fast food/ice cream free. I have hit the gym 3-4 times a week, and I have enlisted co-workers and family to help keep me on track (which hasn't been necessary; I suddenly have the will power to resist). The result? I have lost 14 pounds over the past two weeks, including 8 1/2 pounds last week alone!! I feel better, I feel more energetic, and I'm kicking myself for not doing this earlier. For some reason, I am finding it easy to do. The benefits that I am feeling (and seeing) are so positive that it is helping me to keep on track. I get up in the morning and run out the door to the gym when I can. It's the best feeling possible!! I can sit around people eating junk food and ice cream and not feel the urge to grab it from them and eat it! The weight that I have lost is but a drop in the bucket. I have a long way to go. I am trying to put the old me in the rearview mirror. Hopefully I can keep it going!! I will keep you all posted (probably weekly) on progress!!

Congratulations! Sometimes it is just finding that one "thing" that keeps you on track.
