Kitty Hawk in postcards and photos

Scanned some postcards, re-posted photos and found some photos online for remembering Kitty Hawk's past. Thanks to Jend for her post about this. This first batch of photos comes from Bill Harris. He scanned a lot of these and someone else made them available on webshots. Bill has been a long time board member of the Friends of the Outer Banks History Center. He is well known in these parts and was a dear friend of David Sticks. The Kitty Hawk school latter became the Judy Rand Apartments. The building is still there and last I saw it, it was empty. A friend of mine use to live behind this building and kept her horses behind here also. The next shot is of Kitty Hawk Bay and the the old Kitty Hawk Post Office.

From the Outer Banks History Center a 1950s aerial of Kitty Hawk Sylvenus Harris beach home Here is the link to webshots. There are a lot of photos, but mainly of people and not places. It is a great genealogy resource if this is your family. Click to follow link...

Weird, I posted 4 postcards and they disappeared into thin air. I'll try again... Anderson's and Natuilas Guest House Surf, a unit of Townley's Motel in Kitty Hawk.

Few more... Point Harbor Grill, I know, not in KH, but it must have been exciting to see this landmark on the way to the beach. The old Wright Memorial Bridge, torn down once the new one was built. Winks

I'd totally forgotten the name "Station Six." Thanks for the memories. And there's the little gas station turned funky bar at the split. What the heck was it named? Did it have a name? It was open when it was open, closed when closed is all i remember, besides some fairly good tunes & the occasional live band.

Those postcards and photos are INCREDIBLE! I think that our home is in one of the aerial postcard shots. It's one of the "older" homes in KH. Thanks so much!!

I'll guess NH Pier area & it would appear to be pretty old b/c i can't appreciate a bypass in the pic. roanokeis is better at that area than i am...if indeed its NH. Lemme get some caffeine on board & have another look.

Definitely the Nags Head Pier area. Buildings which became the Foosball Palace and Atlantis are on the right of the pier house. Looks to be in the early-mid 60's?

Wanted to mention Atlantis but that square deal in front of the white building (OFront) is throwing me off. What is that? Parking maybe?

Roanokeis.... Would you happen to know the year the photo(postcard?) you
posted (that has some of the buildings numbere) was taken?

I'm just trying to figure out the cronology of that particular area of KH because I'm pretty sure my home is pictured.

Card appears to be from the 1960s. It is the Nags Head pier you see. I have this one posted in the Nags Head thread along with a lot of other I think. Yours is a better scan. Thanks for posting. Do you have more? Please keep posting. This is wonderful!

The Bill Harris collection is online on webshots and they are not postcards, but actual family photos. I'm guessing but the store looks to be around the 30s and the flat top cottage around 40/50. Here is the link to webshots:Click to follow link...

What MP are you Surfisher? We are at MP 3.1 just about a 1/4 mile south of the photo..too bad. I would love to see what the cottage looked like in the 50's/60's.
