Don Bowers, ca. 1985

About a year ago Dapster asked me to post this. I finally got around to shooting it, so here it is! Back around 1987 I was hanging out in Frisco with my girl and she was really getting into windsurfing. So we went up to WH in Avon and got her a Bic setup. Those were the good old days, you could pick up a whole system for $800. So we were checking out, and I saw they were selling this cool poster. I said that since we were spending so much money, they should give us a poster. They did, and I asked who the guy was in the pic. They said it was Don Bowers, and that he was the master board shaper for Fox/WH. I asked if I could get it autographed; they said if I stop back tomorrow they'll have a signed one for me. So I came back and got it. Fast forward to 2007, I finally got to meet Don while hanging out at Fox in April. We had a nice chat and I told him the story of the poster. Now he's the guy behind the camera. Dang, 1985 just doesn't seem vintage to me!

Wow... what a neat story. And what a neat poster too.

Thanks Bluejay, that is indeed the poster I remember. I met Don around 1993-94 at Bubba's BBQ Frisco location, seated at a table under that very poster, signed as well!

Haven't physically crossed paths with him since. Have been hoping to this summer, but it hasn't come to pass just yet.

I have to agree that 1985 doesn't sound that old to me either, until you do the math....

I glady join you in the continued denial, though! Helps me get through the day, just like avoiding mirrors does!

Good stuff, Bluejay, thanks again!

Denial?? Looking at that aging, frequently malfunctioning creature in the mirror never stopped me from attempting to soldier on, however comical it might be!
