So far gone

I really need some help to get on track. I've seriously been avoiding the mirror and yesterday I finally looked and was really disgusted by what I saw. I never eat sweets and I'm not 100% healthy, but for the most part I eat well. I don't eat fast food or ice cream etc. I guess it is my portions sizes and the fact I am not excercising consistently. I bought into Dr. Oz's nonsense and tried some of his supplements. They do absolutely nothing. I wish I had a work out buddy or something but don't live close enough to anyone for that. Just looking for some support or some commiseration.

I will commiserate with you, sorry you are feeling so down. I am not friends with the mirror either and have never really had a good relationship with it even when I was young and in great shape. So now that I am getting older and have had a few children and been overweight and then lost weight, ugh, I don't like to look at myself at all. But there are so many more important things in life to focus on!

Sorry you are disappointed with the supplements as well. So many people I know take so many different ones and swear by what they take. I think it is just finding the right ones for you that work(?)

If you have the resources and time to do so, my best suggestion is to find a class like Jazzercise in your town and give it a try. I used to go when my kids were younger and they had childcare a few different days of the week. It was nice to go visit with others, workout and be done for the day. It was the first thing I tried when I decided to lose weight and try to adopt a healthier lifestyle. It was like having a workout buddy and it was always there. You could go whenever there was a class and have lots of workout buddies Thumbs up

When you are ready to move forward things will come together. Don't beat yourself up over it. Blinking smiley Try to map out some goals and make a plan of attack to reach those goals. And then just break it down into small steps (like 1 week or something).

Supplements are a waste of time and money.

Concentrate on WHAT YOU EAT and HOW MUCH. Dont go for the preprocessed meals in the frozen food section. Eat chicken, fish, fruits and veggies, egg whites. Whole wheat bread instead of white. Brown rice instead of white. Whole wheat pasta instead of plain.

Little changes in your diet won't do anything. Don't think diet soda is better than regular soda - drink WATER. I drink TONS of water. I bring up to 4.5 liters of water with me to work...daily! If I get hungry, I guzzle water...a few minutes later, I'm not hungry any more.

Here are some other ideas for you:

- Every Friday I post a "weight loss" thread in here (except today) and I was hoping other people would post how much weight they lost for the week. Look at it as a challenge - try to beat me, or others, by losing more weight. Let's see who can lose the most!

- Here is a simple workout I made for myself to do in the morning before breakfast/kids/spouse/etc...get yourself a clock with a "seconds" hand on it and do this:

15 seconds running in place
15 seconds jumping jacks
15 seconds skipping in place
15 seconds jumping side to side over a book
60 seconds rest and drink water

repeat 5 times.

You'll break a sweat and have drank (drunk?) a liter of water in 10 minutes! Add more minutes if you feel up to it. Add more exercises if you want. Concentrate on doing these exercises full on, not half arsed...

- Look around the internet for exercises you can do at night, not aerobics, but muscle building, like push ups etc. YOU WONT turn into the HULK, but you WILL burn a TON of calories, as weight lifting burns more than aerobics. I'm not saying to go buy weights, but you can do a search for "body weight workout".

- I discovered that turkey burgers are really good if you make them super thin, put a big slice of tomato on it, jalapenos, lettuce, on a whole wheat bun omg so good!

I have not been participating because I have not lost anything, LOL! I would be if I was. This week should be good for me. I have been very good about staying on track and eating well.

Thanks for the support! I just need to get moving! I need to pick a day in my head and then just start. I think the hardest part for me is starting...once I'm going I do pretty well.

I'm a big fan of the "Fat Flush Plan". Like you, I thought I ate pretty healthily. It turns out that some of the foods I was eating didn't like me (I had sensitivities which causes weight retention) and I was eating the wrong portions.
This plan is about healthy eating. It starts with a two week detox, then moves to the weight loss phase and when you've hit your goal weight, it gives you a maintenance plan (something many plans are missing).
I've been on it for 6 years now and love it. It is strict, for the first two phases but I think that's why it's so successful.
Best wishes to you in whatever you choose as your path to health!
