Thank you for posting this I mentioned this in passing to my father and he remembered doing this excursion with my uncle in July 1958 and staying in the Silver Lake. He remembers it because while they were on Ocracoke Eisenhower signed the law that made Alaska a state while they were down there.
He said it had started in 1956-1957 ( he thinks) and said the meals that were served were some of the best he had. The cook would ask if they had caught anything they wanted prepared that night and the entire group would throw in and have a complete seafood feast every night with shrimp, flounder, clams,pompano and mullet prepared all diffrent ways.
