Vivianna

I have wonderful memories of the Vivianna! Their rooms were so nice and spacious! What a pity it fell victim (like so many others of these great places)to greedy developers to build those awful, ostentatious beach palaces you see today. Some call it progress; I call it exploitation.

Not sure if this hotel was around in the 50's or 60's, but does anyone remember the Ol' London Inn?

Back in the early 80's, that is where we first stayed when visiting the Outer Banks. Can't remember what milepost it was at. I do remember there was an ice cream stand nearby and the hotel had a huge oceanfront deck.

I have a few pictures of the place that I will try to post sometime.

Great collection of pics! I wonder how many times that pool at the White Marlin ended up getting breached by the surf...

Here's a link to my skydrive page of old NH photos. A lot of old motels. Mostly postcards I downloaded from ebay.

We've been vacationing on the Outer Banks since 1992 and I love seeing these old post cards/pictures. I really appreciate the folks that take the time to share them. Thumbs up

I was going to the obx long before these tacky big beach palaces were built and I stayed in a number of these delightful mom & pop motels! I don't stay in those tacky homes now and never will. . .

You can see four of those huts as you cross the bridge. Look north and you will blue - pink - green - coral. A regular roof was added on top, but that's them. Five more were back on Colington Road at the huge curve at the church, but they were demolished in 2005 or 2006, I think it was.

I love the architecture of those old places. Some kind of seedy, but that's the beauty of it all. Nice photos all.

I will have to tell my kids that is what those are. They always think those are some really lucky kids play houses.
