Ok guys and gals... let's get with it. Time to weigh-in.

In December of last year I was 220, January of this year I was 217.5, May I was 198. Then I spent a week at OBX and ate and ate and ate and drank and drank and drank. July 1, I was 204.5

Today I'm officially weighing in at 201.5.

Let's lose some weight this summer! Who's in? smiley

I can't believe I've dieted every day this week and I've been 201.5 for 3 days now. I've only had 700 calories before dinner, I've exercised everyday, and I'm up half a pound today - 202.

Go figure! Confused

I agree with Nehall.. Sometimes you just need to ignore the number on the scale and focus on how your clothes are fitting and how much healthier your body is getting. The scale has never been my friend even when I was really fit in high school and before I had my kids. When I judge myself by the number on the scale in the morning, it just depresses me. So try to focus on the positives. It takes time.. When you have a lot to lose at first it comes off fast and as you get closer to your goal it gets harder and comes off slower... Sigh.... smiley Hang in there, focus on your goals and keep working towards them, you will be there before you know it!

I have fell off the wagon and it ran over me lol. The scales have been moving in the wrong direction. I have dropped 8 pounds of what I have gained just in the past week. Dr put me on a new med and one of the side effects is weight gain plus I wasn't watching what I eat. I have lowered my carb intake and for me that almost always gets the scales moving in the right direction. I bought I Nu-Wave Oven and that has helped me with my lowcarbing. You can throw a whole chicken in there and it comes out so good.

nice thread. thank you.

my bride has diabetes, and we have revamped "our" diet about a month ago (since I do the cooking Thumbs up ).

I will niether ask nor comment on the weight loss of my bride since, but it is working and she feels better, and the endocrinologist agrees.

For me, gave up the hops and yeast and I am back down to playing weight, from 208 to 192 (on 6'3" frame) since June 2nd. almost all came off the first two weeks. Amazing the beneficial secondary effects of giving that stuff up. Along with road and core work.

nehall and sanddollars - thank you both for being so kind and supportive.

obxnut - Being subscribed to medicine that causes weight gain makes a diet impossible! I don't know what I would do. Are you going to be on it long?

wyldGade - great for you! That is awsome! Tell us what kind of diet you're on. Anything specific?

hatterasnc - I hear ya' on the hops and yeast. Beer is my weakness when I'm at OBX Beer, scotch the rest of the time. Oh heck, I'll admit it... scotch is my weakness all the time... lol Martini Glass

It doesn't seem right that something with no fat, no cholesterol, no sodium, no carbohydrates, and no protein could have so many calories!

Bluefish - I don't pretend to know how the whole deal works, but the Doc talked about secondary effects of how the body stores fat(?) when alcohol is consumed.

Not here to preach by any means. Just one person's experience. And it is good, so far. We'll see.

Best to all. Y'll are in a journey in the best direction. Joint pain is down, and endurance is up, even for a dud(e) like me.

Yeah, I've heard it explained that when alcohol is consumed it goes to the head of the line and everything else has to wait. The longer the wait, the more it can and does get converted to stored fat. Hey... I quit smoking 7 months ago. I'm not ready to give up drinking. In all honesty, I am trying to cut back.

The "WW" in my post means Weight Watchers. Prior to that, I was just doing portion control and stopped eating at fast food joints (my bank account thanked me).

I don't care for beer and luckily they make Mike's Light Hard Lemonade, though I have several in the fridge that I need to drink that are NOT light. However, I don't drink very often (1-2 times a month, if that).

If this doesn't discourage somebody, I don't know what will:
7/1/12 - started low GI diet with nutrisystems - weighed 204.5
7/2/12 - 24 hours later I weighed 202 (2 1/2 pounds in 24 hours - how can that be possible?)
7/3/12 - 201.5 - down another 1/2 pound - looks like I'm on to something.
7/4/12 - 201.5 - no gain no loss
7/5/12 - 201.5 - third day with no change
7/6/12 - 202 - now that's frustrating, drop 3 pounds in 48 hours then go 4 days and I'm up 1/2 pound
7/7/12 - 204.5 - I gained back the 2 1/2 pounds in 24 hours just like I lost it. - how is that possible?

One week of strict dieting and no cheating and include 7 days of 30 minutes cardiovascular and 2 days of 20 min strength building (I was doing neither before.)

What the heck is wrong here? (and bad scales ain't it)

I cant do a daily weigh in.
Do you weigh in the same time each day?
I think OBXNut is a daily weigher, maybe she has some input.

Yep... wife says I should be weighing in the morning, but my routine has been to walk for 1/2 hour when I get home, grab a shower, and then hit the scales.

just guessing...a gallon of water weighs 8 lbs +/-.
2 lbs is a quart, not much. I have heard sodium (salt and spices) and other electrolytes can cause water retention.

I played two baseball games today. It was 100F. Morning weight was 193. Weight just now, even after hydrating all day, was 189. Half a gallon of water (sweat).

Offered in a completely uneducated manner, for consideration.

hatterasnc, I think you've nailed it! I just found this at the website referenced below:

Daily Weight Gain - By drinking more water per day, you will have a series of weight gains throughout the day as a quart (32 oz) of water weighs two pounds. So, as I write this article and sip from my 32 oz glass, I will gain two lbs in the next 90 minutes. Now, I will likely be interrupted by Mother Nature and lose 1-2 lbs from the previous 32 oz glass of water I drank after my early workout. The easy answer is yes - drinking water does affect weight significantly enough to be seen on a scale immediately. Usually, in a 24 hour period, you will cycle through this process of gaining water weight and losing water weight and have either a net loss or stable weight for the day.

Here's the thing... I have been drinking 2 quarts religiously everyday this past week, but I drink most of it in the morning and then weigh around 7 or 8pm in the evening. On the day I gained the weight, I had a 32 oz bottle of water, then a walk, then another 16 oz after the walk, then I weighed. I put on 3 pounds of water in a pretty short period of time and it showed up immediately on the scales. The way my head works... I was thinking - if it's zero calories, then you can't gain weight... lol.

By the way, this evening I weigh 200.5 pounds... so I'm down 4 pounds in 24 hours. IT'S THE WATER!!

Hope you don't mind me jumping on this wagon while its moving. As of tomorrow I have exactly 60 days before I'm headed back to the OBX and could afford to lose a good 20 but being realistic I'm aiming for 10 by the time I get there. Always helps to have alittle support so here it gos.
