Being that Bodie Island Lighthouse is our favorite on the OBX. I decided to start looking at it's history. I've learned alot on this forum, even the proper pronunciation of "Body", that I am sure many of you have much to add. I would love to see older pictures.Disclaimer: Not my web page- just found on a google search.
Here's clue
I still cannot find any concrete reference as to why the Island is named "Bodie." The name reference appears to be a "lost" fact.
Really don't know what to say other than the Body Family owned the Island when it was an Island, as evidenced by many relic maps of the Coast...I Imagine a trip to the County Courthouse/State archives would relieve you curiosity....Old pics are all over the Internet.IMF
Thanks. I think.
TurnerTrading Sez: Thanks. I think.
Thanks. We're in Northern Spartanburg county near the Cowpens Battlefield and just below the NC state line.
Cool; excellent area all through there. I've been to the battlefield there a couple times. My g-g-g-g-grandfather was in the Cowpens battle, in the Maryland Continental troops. He was not quite 21 at the time.
Not to worry. FreshFish should actually be 'SaltedFish'.... as in 'take with a grain of salt'. It's all in good humor.
Very interesting video from "Our State" magazine going over the history and restoration project.
