elliptical vs. treadmill

Looking into getting one of these - need to do something. I think I'd really enjoy walking, but have joint issues and my dr. recommended an elliptical a couple of years back. Have any of you in the same boat used one with success? How about a treadmill - have you found them to cause issues w/your back or joints over time?

For those of you that have one or the other and are happy with it, what brand(s) do you have?

Have a treadmill which I walk on every day. Occasionally I run but not too often or for too long Laughing smiley I usually walk while I watch TV. It doesn't bother my joints or bones but 99% of the time I walk at 3.5 -4mph.

Elliptical I had one and it messed up when I used it I was sore from head to toe in my muscles not my bones/joints. You can really feel it. You get more of a workout in a shorter time on it. I had cheap one that come from Kmart on sale it was $119.

I have an elliptical. I have foot, knee and back problems so using an elliptical puts a lot less stress on my joints than a treadmill would. It also has less moving parts so it's less likely to break down, though of course they all do eventually.

Ours is a tunturi (swedish I think) that cost about $600 new. Not many frills with it, but enough basic features and comes with a heart-rate monitor and heart-rate modes.

I don't think treadmill works for you, it actually increase you joint issues. It is better to be use elliptical or consult therapist for better treatment.

I have a Life Form elliptical. No joint or muscle pain. The movement is pretty gentle not jarring at all.

I have knee issues and not able to use a treadmill. My doctor recommended an elliptical,I use it 4-5 times a week and it has strengthened my knee and it's feeling much better. Virtually no pain.
