who can identify te houses in "millionaire row"

I can remember the Goldboro's, the Small's and truly the Baer's can anyone else identify them "in order of appearance'? Just trying to remember. We were watching one of those "stair genie" commercials and I was telling my husband that one of those houses had one back in the '60s that we used to sneak rides on. My aging brain can't remember which cottage

Where exactly is Millionaire's Row? I saw that in a description for a rental.

Approximately (again the aging brain thing) MP 7 to about 10. Not many of them are still there that I know of.

I think of those as being the ones down more towards Jockey's ridge. Those are definitely older (and truthfully much more to my taste). The ones I am thinking of, just above the Sea Ranch and below the Trading post were built more like late 40's early 50's perhaps. Most of them were white with brightly painted wooden shutters. Yellow for the goldsboros, red for the smalls I think.

And then again, I may just be wrong.

Are any of the unpainted aristocracy still in existence? If so, where are they?

ok, 2 different areas. There is one house that sticks out in my mind over by the Trading Post & owned by the Woolard family who used to own Trading Post. It looks like a newer version of the unpainted aristocracy, but not painted or white.

Here's a link to Marimar McNaughton's book on Outer Banks architecture. I haven't visited unpainted aristocracy cottages since Hurricane Charley, around 2004 maybe? There are many artists who paint them & might could chime in on whats still there or not.

I actually learned the term "unpainted aristocracy" from a fiction book I read that was set in the Outer Banks. I remember seeing a couple of houses when I was there in 2006 or 2007, and I wondered if they were actually members of the unpainted aristocracy or lookalikes that were built later on. I remember one of them being a big house with green storm shutters. Of course, I don't remember where it was, South Nags Head, maybe.

if you click on artist Marcia Cline's website & go to the pics of her works there are many of the historic row houses under "current & past." The area is over by Jockeys Ridge & KH Kites...on the beach road. smiley with shades

These are done by a fantastic watercolor artist who I am lucky to call my friend. I believe all of these are available at Yellowhouse Gallery.

This is not from millionaire's row but it is of the Pailin-Skinner cottage, one of the unpainted aristocracy on milepost 13 in Nag's Head.

There are so few left on millionaires row which was about a mile or so south of the Sea Ranch. The properties were all on huge lots and so many turned into condos in the early 1980s. The Goldsborough cottage is still there- as is the Morrison and Burger ( just below Croatan surf lodge) but the Baer cottage ( people who owned the Trading Post) seems to be gone.

The Morrison family has many properties in the area you are speaking of, near Coral St. in KDH. Such an amazing story about that family, and their matriarch, who was very involved in the Lost Colony play productions mid century. If you look at the Dare GIS, you will see that most of the OF homes in that area are owned by the Morrison Trust. Just another example of the "days of yore" of the Outer Banks.

I hope someone will read this link.

Could you give this artist’s name? I can’t get on the fb link since I am not on fb. I’ve been on the hunt for another watercolor of one of the unpainted aristocracy. I have one that I inherited and would love another. I’ll try to get up to the yellowhouse on my next trip but would love to look at some now.
Thank you
