Crossfit (or functional training)

Maybe I'm weird and sadistic, or maybe it's all of the time in the Army, but I like workouts that leave me sore and exhausted. I heard about crossfit from a friend, who got in incredible shape with it. I did more research and discovered functional strength training, using a lot less weights and a lot more bodyweight. I've been at it seriously for about 3 weeks. I'm really starting to love the feeling I get after (I recover from) a workout. I was wondering if anyone else here has been doing this, and how they're liking it? What exercises do you do to target certain muscle groups? Any advice or places to find workouts?

I'm an avid functional strength proponent and will tell you there are endless possibilities for programming, but warn to find something and don't self-program unless you have years and years of experience doing so. You will inevitably program what you like (good at) and not what you hate (poor at) and there will be useless, not useful, randomness to your programming without significant forethought.

With that said, regardless of goals, so long as the macro objective is health and fitness, there are too many free places to find programming. Military Athlete.com and OPT.com are good places to start. Become a student of form and function. The only additional advice is while you can certainly get great workouts outside a gym and without the cost, equipment, coaching/training and peer pressure is great.

You know there is crossfit box at kill devil hill? Got me hooked big time. With temperature and humidity you guys have there you'll lose weight three times faster than I can do in Ontario.

I do, and I plan on taking advantage of the weekly rate in order to continue my 6/1 programming I'm currently on.

I saw the Crossfit in KDH. We have one here in Newport News, but I'm individually motivated (for lack of a better term). I'd rather work out on my own. I've found a couple sites in addition to the ones here. There is one that is designed for travelling, so you won't need any equipment. I was going to post the link, but that will have to come later. I deleted the email. And when all else fails I grab the ruck and hit the trails.
