As in RE lost to the Environmental lobbies. See any similarities between this and CHNSRA ? It's not about the birds and turtles, it's a power play. Pay special attention to 'Best available Science'.

How is the nonrenewal of a lease a power play?

Interesting question when you read that the seal colony had most probably relocated and the Oyster Farm had coexisted for 80 years without interference. The NPS doesn't want anyone to coexist with "their" nature and property.

There is considerable more to the story than sloppy science.  Point Reyes was intended to be a national seashore with wilderness areas. The oyster farm was bought from the orginal owner and they were given a lease with a date when they would have to be gone. A few years before the lease was to end they sold their remaining years to Drakes.
The oyster farm was closed because of a previous business agreement. A private commercial oyster farm is not consistent with management of a wilderness area. The sloppy science had nothing to do with the Judges decision.
