All over facebook... didn't see anything here:

Lots of seismic theories flying around coinciding with recent "booms" and tremors.... Hope that's not it... but hope more they find out what's going on.

Oregon inlet idiots and pilot online suggest it Is a natural feeding frenzy where predator fish chased the menhaden inshore and then the bunker got caught in the roil and beached themselves. No idea how the dead dolphin got up there, maybe caught in the mix.

I read that too but thousands of fish? I've seen bottlenose dolphins go into big schools of menhaden but never saw them beach themselves miles along the coastline.

I'm wondering too SP. It seems like so many fish!

Years ago, at least 25, I remember Dillion's corner selling a poster of trout beached by blues at the point. Don't know when the beaching took place, and I didn't witness it, but in the pic, it looked like you couldn't take a step without walking on 'em.

I read the BS about the feeding frenzy. It happens - but the predators usually "round up" their prey and you get big bunches of bunker on the beach it spots... these are spread out real evenly along the beach as they would drifted in with the tide.

That. AND the earth moved... and USGS doesn't acknowledge it?? WTF?

Does seem weird. I felt the house shake twice. The domestic water supply had all this air in the line and made a racket right after the shake. What ever it was, was out of the normal range.
Wait and see if anything else washes ashore in the next couple of weeks.

My Dad and I were there for that. People were filling up 5 gallon buckets with trout. I think that was back in the 80s.

There were scheduled Seismic Underwater Explorations scheduled for this year. They were going to use underwater "Cannons". When they were permitting the exploration the resarchers asked the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) if they could "Take Fish". Take means KILL!

Wasn't there just some kind of solar phenomenon? Maybe another factor in creating some sort of condition causing a die off.,

I've seen fish driven ashore, but it was a localized phenomena, maybe 100 yards.

Air cannons would hardly be powerful enough for such a widespread event. Tremendous energy to shake the earth like that.

Maybe ISIS giving us a little demo by detonating a nuke under water off the coast? USGS had to have recorded somthing, irregardless of the cause. Why are they silent?

I talked to a friend who is a geologist, and he said seismic testing can trigger geologic movement, similar to what fracking does. So it's very possible that there was seismic testing going on (which is known to kill fish in the vicinity of the vessel doing the testing) and that the testing triggered an earthquake.

Apparently the USGS can tell a difference in their data when a seismic event is triggered by an explosion or other unnatural cause, and would not consider such an event as an earthquake. So, they may just being very precise in their wording by saying no earthquakes were recorded.

From what I've been able to tell, no permits have been issued for seismic testing to begin yet, so if someone's out there doing it, it is not allowed. I would certainly like to know more about this and hope somebody can get to the bottom of it.

I say it's a cold kill. We've seen abnormally cold snaps kill fish before. Could be the case this time.
Maybe Sea Ray the Midgett will chime in, he seems to know everything.

Edit:
(Oh, he already did, but doesn't seem to have the answer this time,)

On Tuesday (3/17/15) I saw hundreds of these fish washed up on the first two miles of the 4x4 beach north of Corolla. Not as many as in the photos, maybe one fish every 5 feet or so.

I recall a similar fish kill last year in the same area after a cold snap. Then it was cownose rays. The prevailing explanation was that very cold water in the Chesapeake Bay killed the rays which then washed out to sea and ended up on the Corolla beaches.

So we have fish coming out of the ocean and geese falling out of the sky. What's next?

It was not sonic blasting for oil off the coast...it was either trawl boat discards or predator fish that ran the menhaden up on the beach.Due to the fact that there was such a large area of dead fish...I would say it was trawlboat discards......I have seen this numerous times.I have also seen the Big Bluefish chase the Menhaden up up the beach as well...but when they did it was just small areas.
