For those who got a permit lately??

Someone told my BIL that when he went to get his ORV permit last month that there is now a sign stating that all wheel drive vehicles will NOT be permitted due to the amount of stuck vehicles that have had to be towed this year. Does anyone know if this is true and/or official? My Suburban is, of course, 4 wheel drive so it doesn't really matter but I was just curious about this? The official NPS.gov page doesn't mention it and, in fact, the 7 minute video they force feed you actually states that 2 wheel drive vehicles are allowed but not reccomended...lol. So I'm not sure how they could enforce this "no all wheel vehicle" rule.

Sounds bizarre to me, and somebody may want to tell this guy that 2-wheel drive doesn't work.

Got ours mid August at Coquina. I don't remember seeing any sign like that, but wasn't really looking for one either, so could have missed.
In any event, there was nothing so glaringly obvious

That rumor is not true. The permit fee collectors recommend that a two or awd vehicle not get a permit for those vehicles, but will not refuse to issue a permit for those reasons.

Rumor really doesn't make sense. Any licensed 4 wheel vehicle is legal on the beach. Folks were driving the beach in 2WD cars long before 4WD was common.

Seems from reading on a fishing site several states mandate 4wd to get a permit. One location specifies a tire pressure to air down to. Doubt the genius who thought that part of the rule up examined all tire/rim combos.

Who remembers the 2 optometrists in Hatteras who would drive around in the Eldorado convertible on the beach? They made some impressive martinis Laughing smiley

Let me guess, they made the martinis as they drove?

Probably only check the ones who get stuck.

Thanks for the input. I figured there was some confusion on the part of the person who thought this was true.
