Does anyone know where the water slide was located in either NH or KDH. I know it was on the west side. We used to go there all the time when we visited in the late 80's early 90's.

The Surf Slide was just past Kelly's, where Dunkin Donuts is now. I loved this place when I was a kid.

I cut my foot so badly at the Surf Slide when it was newly opened. my brother in law had to carry me into the ocean the rest of the vacation so the sand wouldn't irritate my foot. I never went on another slide after that one. I sliced my foot on a sharp edge at the bottom of the slide.

It was next to the Laser Tag place in Nags Head. You went down on mats.. it had 3 or 4 shutes.

There were a couple of turns where I always seemed to hit my head if I wasn’t paying attention. But man, we loved this place when I was little!
In the 80s growing up at the obx if we couldn’t go to the beach or needed an alternate activity, the Surf Slide was great-
Or Dowdys. Or roller skating at the Ark.

Actually I think some of you are confusing the Surfslide with Diamond Shoals on Hatteras Island. The Nags Head Surfslide was 3 or 4 shoots straight down riding on foam mats. Absolutely no curves. The Surfslude closed way before the 2000"s

The one time I went I kept loosing my mat as I was going down the slide. And without a mat that thing hurt like hell to slide on. After that happened to me 2 or 3 times I said nope I'm done. My mom kept sliding until she was done and wanted to know why I had stopped. When I told her she said something a long the lines of you should have held on more tightly. I think I was just too small and light to go by myself. I couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 years old at the time.

Diamond Shoals wasn't on Hatteras it was in French Fry Alley right in front of the bowling alley. My sister worked there in high school. I don't know anything about it being sketchy when she was working there but I promise you she wouldn't have been employed there with a known sex offender. The place down in Hatteras was in Rodanthe and called Waterfall Park. Now THAT place WAS kinda seedy even when it was fairly new in the late 80s. By the 2000s it really looked like a worn out carnival ride.

The link that takes you to long ago and gone away places had a pic of Dowdy’s Park at the 11mp in Nags Head. My parents house was back in Vista Colony right off W. Barnes.
We often took the kids to Dowdy’s until one day my hubby and little son almost fell off the Ferris wheel!
Which forever after (even to this day) we referred to as “the wheel of death”.
Good times, gone forever.
