A pic from Snug Harbor Cultural Center in NYC. A 10 minute walk from my house. I love to sit a spell on the benches there. It's a nice place to walk the dog too.

It looks like someone bleached a squirrel! OMG smiley Very cool.

Google indicates that Brevard, NC is a hot spot for them. That's pretty close to you in Waynesville, NC, right? That's a beautiful area around there.

Here's a plain old grey squirrel eating the water hyacinth from my waterfall.

I somehow missed your posts MM?! The cicada larva was ready for flight in an hour? I'd love to see that happen!

That cabin sounds perfect. I love the mountains almost as much as the beach.

A rare shot I took last August. An Osprey with a Sailfish.

Dubs, it was approximately an hour. i was so mesmerized i lost track of the exact time. When it first flew up to the pitcher it looked a little awkward and strained. It stayed there most of the day, then disappeared.

BTW, your bear shoots reminded me - i've spent a BIG part of my life in the woods and have never seen a bear. At the cabin last week, i looked out from the back deck at daybreak and thought i saw one at the edge of a clearing, about 50 yards away. i didn't want to disturb it but kept a close eye on it. As it got lighter outside, i saw that it was only a shadow in a rhododendron thicket!

I love how fog changes perspective in photos. What would have been a brilliant autumn display in sunlight looks almost eerie in the mist. Blue Ridge Pkwy on a memorable hike several years ago. It was so foggy that we crept along the winding road behind the park ranger guided only by his tail lights and drove right by the trailhead.

No, not in Brevard for the white squirrel. Although they do have them there. I think this one is an albino??? He's a local on Hatteras. I've tried before to get a pic of him. Hangs out in same neighborhood! I tried to quote that comment but having trouble! Thought for sure others may know him!

This is Muddy Creek Falls. The largest waterfall in Maryland.

Here's a red fox in the back yard. It's fun to watch them hunt the field mice and voles.

I'm not sure if this is the same fox, but it looks like it might be. There's a family of them back in the woods.

We've got turtles up here also, but NEST doesn't help them here. Theeth smiley

We have a creek in the back yard. It's not a big creek and it's usually just a trickle, but it's home to some pretty big snappers. They like to come up in the yard and dig a nest in a small mound at the very back of the yard. They also like to swim in the pool and pond.

One day I came out to a completely cloudy pool. You couldn't see a foot under. I had no idea why it was cloudy, so I treated it. Next day, no progress. Treated it again. Third day, still no progress. What the heck. Then I noticed something move on the sun deck. Got the skimmer and struggled to get a big snapping turtle out of the water. She was not very happy. Had to replace that skimmer.

I've blocked most of the access points to the pool so we haven't had them in there for a couple of years.

Here's a female about to lay eggs. I scared here off taking this picture, but she came back later to lay the eggs.

Here's the nest after they hatched. One of the eggs didn't hatch, so we kept it. Looks like a ping pong ball.

This little guy lost his way. He went south into the pool instead of north into the creek.

One day I noticed that several of my lilies in the pond had been snapped off. I suspected a turtle and sure enough. I check the skimmer and found this guy. I don't think he got any of my fish. Bad turtle. Bad.

One of my neighbors came running over one day to get me. She said there was a big turtle in the mulch by her pool. Jim, her husband, wouldn't go near it. I came over and after getting it out of the garden grabbed it by the tail. I carried it back to the creek and let it go. Next day, same story. This time I put it in a cooler and relocated it to a bigger creek down the road that our creek feeds into.

There has been a Whale in NY harbor for a couple of days. I guess the water is cleaner. It gave the people on the Staten Island Ferry a show.

Great picture of the whale! A while back we had a beluga whale come up the Delaware river. I was working in Bristol at the time right on the river. Was very cool to watch it from our office windows.
