Save the UFO in Frisco

Apparently the dare county board has determined the Frisco UFO is somehow out of compliance. There is a change.org petition about it. Click to follow link...

Signed it - and thank you!! I'll pass it along to friends and family who don't frequent this discussion forum.

It might be a good idea to move this (if you can do that) thread into the main forum. Not as many people seem to read this section.

Saw this on FB and signed. It's historic. Would hate for it to be gone.

Does anybody know what the non-compliance issue is? It can't be out of place, it's sitting on the edge of a scrap yard.

Not sure I've been here 2 weeks and will ask. I want to think it is zoning and placement since all it is doing is sitting in Router's lot since Isabelle and the sale of the Scotch Bonnet after that.

I signed the petition. I look for the Futuro house like I do the lighthouse every year since I was a teenager and I'll be 60 this year.

I'd like to know what the petition letter says, and what issue Dare county had with the structure. It's hard to get outraged about something if I don't know what I'm outraged about.

According to Nancy Pelosi, you need to sign it to see what's in it. Confused

Apparently. When I click on "Read the Letter", it says:

Letter to
Board of Commissioners Dare County
S.O.S.: Save the Frisco UFO

...yeah, I'm not signing that.

If Dare county can't make the eyesore that is the abandoned Rodanthe water park go away, than they should be ashamed of themselves for trying to make the Futuro house be moved. the spaceship is iconic, an attraction, and beloved as much as the Frisco pier, which BTW still seems to be hanging in there.

Thank you so much for this FriscoFan - I'd been looking over on the IFP but must have missed it today. Good article...a bit of a complex situation but it sounds as though with a little help from its friends that the UFO will stay with us long term.

I'm still glad I signed the petition.

Definitely worth reading this article. Thumbs up

Friscofan: I really appreciated the article as well!!!
Although I knew the petition wasn't the 'whole story' I am also glad I signed, just to get exactly (!) this kind of coverage and interest fired up.
I hope the UFO continues to live long and prosper. smiley

It has such a kitschy appeal. Hard to imagine it NOT being there.

It's like the Frisco pier! You just have to see it when you are there...it's part of the area. We would miss them both if they were gone.

I'm still confused over what the battle is. The county is not trying to do away with the UFO. It seems as if they haven't changed their position in 11 years.

It is rather confusing, Brad. The IFP article is much more detailed...and agrees that it's confusing, yet helps to clarify it. I could try to summarize it, but it's probably better if you read the article there: Click to follow link... The short version is that it has to do with safety and building codes. The second part of the article gets into the details. According to the Dare County Commissioner no one wants to tear it down but....it needs to be made safe no matter what happens next.

Yeah, I read the article. I just don't know why the owner is suddenly claiming the structure is in jeopardy. The county made it clear what he needs to do if he intends to make it an occupied structure. Regardless, it sounds like he needs some assistance, one way or another.

I just posted this on a few Mid Century FB pages. Should generate some interest. It would be a shame to lose this landmark.
