Do you know when this was taken? I would guess early 60's from the look of the truck and cars.

Unfortunately, I don't know the date. But I think it is possibly dated as far back as the late 50's. Winks was built in 1953.

I don't post often here in this forum, but I love to visit to see the pics, especially these older ones. This pic is awesome. Thanks to all who post here.

Great photo that brings back memories. Virginia Dare Hardware is just to the right of Winks, and the buildings to the left housed David Stick's used book shop and a Laundromat. The "cottages" back then had no washer and dryer, had no A/C, had no television or radio, had no dishwasher, no telephone, etc. There was also no supermarket on the Outer Banks so you shopped in Elizabeth City for a week's worth of groceries prior to heading across the bridge. Even with these Spartan conditions, vacationing on the Banks was GREAT!
