Again with the negativeness?

So every post you have ever made is earth shatteringly interesting?

Seriously? Why are some SO bent on being so rude?

If you do not find this thread interesting or of value, DONT READ IT. Ignore it and move on.

There are threads on this forum where people talk about their dogs, their every day minutia and no one gives them this "bums rush".

Talk about being unwelcoming. How about "cutting the light out" on that sort of behavior??

Please accept this in the spirit offered. No one disagrees with you that your rental should be clean, and no one’s being rude. I believe what’s being offered is that you can only say the same thing so many times before it becomes tedious. We get it, your disappointment with the condition of the home. We understand. And we agree. Phrasing it differently doesn’t change that. I hope whatever you decide makes you happier. Peace, and out.

Well, that's all well and good...and thank you for your thoughts......though I would suggest that maybe not everyone feels that way as there are folks who have chimed in with their (thoughtful) thoughts in discussion even after some of the negative thoughts were posted. So THEY are interested.....there is that.

I guess this is the effect of Twitter and facebook....people value their own opinions more than others and these days its "my right" to be snarky and rude at will if I feel that you are boring me.

But what's more interesting is that if the negative nellies want the thread to die, wouldn't it be better to not post the rude posts, which simply add a post to the thread and get the thread back to the top of the hit list?

If one actually reads the more thoughtful posts from others besides me, there is actually a conversation going on. It's not "just rephrasing" anything, its DISCUSSING it.

I have gotten a few really nice PMs furthering the conversation (thanks for those foks!). Maybe they also felt uncomfortable "furthering" a conversation that a few deemed unworthy and not fit to continue?

No need to read it, join it or prolong it if one doesn't feel it is a good one. There are a few threads on this forum I have begun tio read and after a few posts decided it didn't interest me....so I scrolled to the next topic.

Consider that if the people who not interested simply ignored the thread and didn't take their time to post rude, snarky or offhand comments in it, THEY would be happy because they wouldn't be forced to read something they are not interested in.....and those who ARE interested in it, including me, would be happy because no one is trying to bully the topic into closing.

Everyone would be happy.

Right?

No need to reply that was rhetorical.

After being jumped all over by a few on THIS one, is it a surprise that I haven't posted anywhere else yet?

Again, rhetorical.

'Nuff said on the topic of the value of this thread.....hopefully?

In the meantime, if anyone else wants to continue the actual discussion, great.

If not, and the thread dies....GREAT.

Or of someone wants to prolong bashing someone for sharing their thoughts on a "boring" topic", well, great I guess.

THE NEXT POST after this one is what will decide that. So there ya have it.

Indeed, peace to all.

Shadango, I believe you’ve misunderstood my intent.

RE: Twiddy and ever increasing fees, service etc

One thing to remember is from its very beginning, this message board has not looked kindly on anyone who may have some sort of negative thing to say about the sanctity of the OB rental industry. People are derided as complainers and whiners and being part of the group of people who are never happy. Or their status as new or infrequent posters invalidates their discussion. Or called big city loud mouthed northerners who should just go to Wildwood and shut up.
Don’t let them beat you down. Speak your mind on the issue.

RE: Twiddy and ever increasing fees, service etc

Can anyone image the length of a thread if Sea Urchin and shadango were to get into a discussion? It would be legendary! Big grin

Oh, and to answer your question to me many posts back about the 4x4 access south of the Bonner. You'll find both crowded and uncrowded areas. There will be a lot of variables to it including closures, where the bite is hot, time of day, time year, etc. I'll let others comment of which ramps are best to avoid crowds because I haven't been on those beaches for a few years. I remember 55 being fairly open, 44 being fairly crowded and the point being really crowded (for a reason).

RE: Twiddy and ever increasing fees, service etc

Money talks. If you don't like a service, stop using them. If enough people follow suit it will get the company's attention. I had a similarly bad set of experiences with Twiddy, culminating in a home that was borderline unsafe because of mold and water coming in around outlets. If you post a review that has even a whiff of criticism they'll delete it. They aren't what they used to be.

There are other companies. Use them instead. I really liked Carova Cottages. But I will also say that I did use Twiddy again this year because CC didn't have the home I wanted during my vacation week. Because the home was brand spanking new I thought I'd give them one more chance. The home was very nice and in good repair, though there was construction debris and nails all over the place.

Carova is definitely changing. It's getting overbuilt, and those horse tours are a plague that need to be better regulated. But I still love the place. It's more like the Outer Banks I remember from many years ago.

RE: Twiddy and ever increasing fees, service etc

I appreciate it when anyone shares their experiences with rental companies and specific houses, good and bad. It helps everyone make informed decisions about how to spend their hard earned money. I have used information from this forum to avoid houses and companies more than any other resource. In the 16 years my family have been coming to OBX, we have probably spent a small fortune, I feel it a personal victory that the money has almost always gone to good companies that treat us well. Someday, we plan on staying in the 4x4 area, looks like it will not be with Twitty unless they improve drastically. Don't be dissuaded, share your experiences. I thank you.

As for the Corolla and 4x4 area, one rental company I would think twice about is Karichele. We used them years ago in the Ocean Sands area and the house was in disrepair, not cleaned well and not as advertised. They did send out cleaners to finish cleaning but none of the broken/missing items were addressed. It's no longer with the company. I think it was a combination of owner neglect and a big company that just has to ignore the small stuff. I get it. But they just don't get my money or my good review. That's how the free market works. Smaller companies have consistently impressed me in the OBX. Buyer beware. Particularly in rentals.

Good luck and may you choose wisely.

RE: Twiddy and ever increasing fees, service etc

I appreciate this post. We rent in September and we now know to expect there will be issues that we discover that may or may not get addressed during the week. Our first house rented through Twiddy literally had pieces of the bedroom ceiling hanging down and moldy smelling carpet on the first floor, broken steps on the beach walkway, etc.

But the last two years renting with them were better, maybe because we stayed at a newer house. Of all the agencies we’ve rented from, I’d say Corolla Classic Vacations has been the best at making sure everything was so clean and in great shape.

I love the OBX and the time our family stays there. We appreciate that the owners let us stay in their beautiful homes. We pay less to come at the end of the season and have learned the trade off is likely to be wear and tear. I like the idea someone suggested of renting early in the season, when things start out fresh!

Shandago, I am pleased for you in recognizing the intended humor. I believe visitors and owners, and PMs all want the same things. Happiness. Satisfaction. Both for a visitors week, and an owners season. I think through 140 posts, 10000+ views, we can all agree.

Please Be Well and enjoy your pancakes Big grin

RE: Twiddy and ever increasing fees, service etc

Yeah, it does seem like this is a popular thread, for one reason or another.

It's no "butter roast" thread, but its up there...LOL

(Ok, I am hungry again)

RE: Twiddy and ever increasing fees, service etc

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Twiddy, shadango. The "Butter Roast" thread is legendary and to a board newbie it's a lot of fun to read through. I can't wait to try the recipe.

I hope you don't mind if I post a grievance in your thread about Beach Realty. We rented a house on the sound in June and when we arrived with our groceries, I opened the fridge and was knocked down by the smell of rancid fish. Evidently the people that had just left the house had been fishing and left them in the fridge for a week. I called Beach Realty about the smell, they sent someone over on Sunday afternoon (we arrived Saturday). I'd went shopping again, taking away from my R&R time, and bought cleaning supplies, lemons, 3 boxes of baking soda to try and get the smell out. The cleaning person brought a bottle of Lavender "Fabuloso" to clean it with after I'd already tried to clean it (the stuff you get at the dollar store) and now the fridge smelled like rotten lavender scented fish! Really disgusting combination.

I called the realty company again, suggested that a new fridge be brought in, which I knew was a long shot but I had to try, and the woman in charge of house cleaning said that it "takes a few days for the smell to dissipate." We left the following Saturday with the smell of fish still in the fridge and the house. Basically we had to suck it up and deal for a week.

We don't always get what we pay for with these cleaning fees or service that's expected from the PM companies, IMO.I was hesitant to say anything on this board but I'm sure others have had similar experiences. Hope our next rental is not such a disappointment.

ETA: The previous year we rented through Brindley Beach - one of the large oceanfront, 10 bedroom houses. The house was immaculate and well maintained. Not one issue the entire time except there was no towel rack in the outside shower. If that's the worst thing that we ever have to deal with in a rental home, I'd say that's a win.

To be crystal clear, I have zero interest in Property Management Companies/Realty firms or what have you. In fact, it’s my opinion that they are the wrack and ruin of a perfectly sublime piece of coastal NC. I have never rented personally although thirty some years ago my family and relations did.

I visit on occasion, usually to Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. I stay with friends lately in their year round homes. When the kids were school age we spent a lot of time on Ocracoke at The Castle B&B. It’s now been sold to some entity of The Village of Nags Head. The Castle Villas are the properties that are suitable to larger family groups. Pool and spa, all the amenities but the B&B breakfast I believe? Bikes too...

What was the house you booked if you don't mind sharing? I've picked up another Monster from Brindley for next year. Wondering if it's the same one.

I don't remember the name of the house, but it's across the street from Bonzer Shack on the beach road in KDH.

We don’t have a towel rack in our outside shower but we do have several hooks available to hang a towel or clothing. Our outside shower is completely finished with the same siding and vinyl soffit in the ceiling that is used throughout the house.
