Free Outer Banks Classified Ads

I brought back the free classified ad pages I originally started in 2013. You can enter your classified ads for free in any of the categories that are set up. There are a few test classifieds out there in the Professional Services category. I'll remove them shortly, but wanted to give everyone a sample of what they look like. Three of them are actual old ads from 2015.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions.... you know what to do.

I like this. Can you add a "WANTED" section?

RE: Free Outer Banks Classified Ads

What no Personals section? Just kidding.

RE: Free Outer Banks Classified Ads

I have seen several people over the years trying to get together groups for fishing charters. I don't know if there is enough need for it but the classifieds could be a good place for interest.

Hmmmm. I could add that. I need to work out the legal-ese involved to protect myself from any liability though.... Banana

Great idea.

I was going to post a wanted ad but I had some questions. First, are the forum posts available only to forum members or could anyone read them?

The reason I ask is an e-mail address is required and if this is a public forum anyone could obtain it. It’s not a good idea to post e-mail addresses on public forums. That’s how people get scammed.

CC,

Yes, the classified ads are open to the public. Your email address is not displayed on the page, but if someone clicks to contact you they can still see it when they open up their email. This is kind of the rub: I don't know how else to do it.

Let me explain my dilemma: If you post a bike for sale and you don't want to post your phone number or email address, how is a prospective buyer to contact you? I could use an email form to hide your email address and send you alerts, but then, how would you reply to the buyer?

With all of that in mind, I decided to keep it simple and do like the newspaper classified ads do. Post an easy way for someone to contact you about the item or service you have for sale. Now, if you can give me ideas of a better way to do this without generating a lot of work for me, I am all ears. I could probably come up with some kind of an email relay, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort. Thoughts?

Cheers,
Will

Hi Will,

Thanks for the reply. I have had my address book hacked several times over the past several years. What happens is they use the information to send spam. I’m not the only one that this has happened to. I participate on a hobby forum and a number of members have had issues with potential scammers.

Here is an example. I was looking for a particular Lionel model train. I got contacted by an individual saying he had one for sale. I had a number of problems with contacting this individual and his failure to follow through responding to my e-mails. It turns out this guy was a scam artist. He never did have the product and wanted me to send the money, $700, via a Walmart money order.

Fortunately for me another forum member put an alert out that this guy was a scammer. Thankfully for me I never completed the transaction.

That’s a problem with having an e-mail on a public forum. I would think having a phone number as contact information would be sufficient. I have no problem with that.

NCSU Dad,

I added the personals section, but am disappointed to see you haven't put an ad out there yet. Banana

Like I said I was just kidding. My wife says I can do whatever I want. Just don't come home afterwards. I have no intentions of testing her resolve on that promise. Confused No sir!

RE: Free Outer Banks Classified Ads

Will, I just noticed there seems to be a glitch. When you click on "vacation rentals" it redirects you to "rentals-long term". Clicking the rental-long term link does bring you to the correct page. Just thought I'd make you aware.
