Kitty Hawk car breakins?

Over on OB Voice there's an article about some car breakins in KH. They do not mention WHERE in KH this happened. Anybody here know more?

RE: Kitty Hawk car breakins?

I saw something on Facebook a couple of days ago that mentioned car breaks-ins in Kitty Hawk Estates but no other details,

RE: Kitty Hawk car breakins?

Yep, it is a year-round problem in all towns that increases during the visitor season. Don't leave your car unlocked or leave anything valuable outside.

bobbyg…..is the increase due to the visitor's doing the break ins or more available targets?

Yes.
Don't leave anything of value unsecured outside or in an unlocked vehicle, just as you wouldn't at home.

I believe it is the increase in visitors, however, these break-ins occur throughout the year. I wouldn't want to point the finger at anyone. Mischief and theft can take place at any time. There used to be a list of offenses, I believe, posted in the Coastland Times but I could be wrong since we stopped our subscription a long time ago.

Keep everything secure in and outside of your rentals We all sort of chill out when on vacation, however, the people that are in the business of making a quick buck are going to take advantage regardless if they are locals or tourists.

Of course I have NO proof that this happened while at Avon but...

After getting back, my change oil light came on, which also means I needed to rotate tires (F150 owners know what I'm talking about). So the Sunday after getting back I changed my oil. The next weekend, I pulled my truck in to rotate tires. On my driver's side, front wheel, 5 out of 6 lug nuts were completely rounded off. On my driver's side rear, 2 out of my 6 lug nuts were completely round. Now... the weekend before vacation, I had a squeak in my rear brakes so I re-lubed and cleaned all 4 brakes. Nothing was wrong with my lug nuts at that time. I had to take it to my shop to have the lug nuts replaced. I couldn't get them off they were so chewed up. While at the condo in Avon, I usually was parked under the condo. There was no lighting. I'm convinced that someone came and tried to take my rims while parked under there. They were not successful, but I had to pay to repair their damage.

Interestingly enough, I recall seeing a post on the OBX, NC facebook page last night about two jeeps with slashed tires that had been parked at the public access lot in the area.

I saw that on Facebook. Only the two Jeeps, no other vehicles.
