Virginia "Stay at Home Order"

Governor Northam just issued a stay at home Executive order in effect until June 19. Apparently a factor in his decision to do this was the large amounts of people disregarding the 6-foot social distance rule at Virginia Beach. The beach is now closed to swimming and sunbathing.

I really don't understand why people are ignoring the 6-foot rule. Honestly, social distancing makes since even when we aren't in the middle of a pandemic. I work in a large healthcare system. People just aren't listening.

RE: Virginia "Stay at Home Order"

The beaches at Va Beach were crowded this weekend. I hope this helps, but people are still allowed to go to the beach to fish or walk. Eventually - they will need to close the beaches and the state parks.

The order is in place until June 10th...…….that's a Wednesday, one day after the June 9th Republican primary.

Interesting. From Governor Blackface, gun grabber and advocate for infanticide.
Sure MikeW has a poster of him above his twin bed.

I could send him this one from my collection.

Are you working for CNN now Mike?
You just can't resist bringing politics into every thread you chime in on. I think Bobby said it best when he asked what benefit do you bring to this board?

He likes to pull the pin on a grenade and run. Classic internet troll tactic.

What a political hack you are!

RE: Virginia "Stay at Home Order"

Mike has some valid criticisms of the president.

Keep in mind even Dr. Fauci said to expect up to 200,000 dead Americans because of this.

I am sure MIKE the hack could do a much better job at POTUS,

Anyone with a brain cell can understand the hope POTUS had for us when he made the statement. Maybe MIKE the HACK should dig up some of the stuff the left had to say or the WHO.......

I agree and MI, where I am, is accelerating past NY is the growing number of confirmed cases. I have been working from home for two weeks and staying in but had to run to the office today to drop some paperwork on my desk for someone going in tomorrow, No one was there except me for that 2 minutes. . However, on the way home I noticed the Walmart and Sams Club parking lots were packed with cars, Absolutely no way all those people are staying 6' apart.

I also agree. People are not taking this serious enough. Some folks think they are special and the rules don't apply to them. They go out for fast food take out, drop by their place of work for non critical purposes, run to the liquor store, go out of their home to take pictures of ships and selfishly risk spreading the infection......wake up.

lowtide

I don’t know what to say. You’ve got it right, lowtide. The peak in NYC hasn’t even hit yet, let alone the rest of the country.

I don’t know what the mentality is on this board, normalcy bias maybe?

No one here wants to listen to science or math. We’ve got states bidding against each other to buy PPE. The DPA invocation will take at least 3-4 weeks before we get a single ventilator produced.

The department of labor is talking about 70 million unemployed by the end of April.

And the scariest part of all of this is that you’ll just call me chicken little and move on. Tim just this morning was saying he hopes rental houses open by May.

I don’t want to incite fear or panic, that won’t help anyone. I’ve already been asked via PM to not share the front line stories of the hospitals in NYC.

Look, I get it. This stuff is scary. Digging your head in the sand and screaming fake news won’t make this go away. SARS-COV-2 doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor. It doesn’t care if you’re a Republican or a Democrat, black or white, or any other metric you can measure.

We are all in grave danger, and the only thing we can do right now to protect ourselves is to stay home.

RE: Virginia "Stay at Home Order"

Thank you, Aliphatic.

RE: Virginia "Stay at Home Order"

I think there is a healthy middle ground of taking precautions to protect yourself and your community and being completely "end of times" minded. COVID19 is different from the typical flu because we know so little about it. It is spreading like wildfire in certain areas, and if someone is from one of those areas they have a different viewpoint than someone in small town USA that has 4 cases in the county (they know of). I get that we all want to be informed of what is going on, but 24/7 news coverage and death counters on the bottom of the screen is a bit overboard.

I hear you, Mike.

As for the political stuff, Will explicitly stated the rules for that last fall. I believe you were involved in that discussion. John recently re-posted those rules.

That said, I enjoy your posts. Mostly good stuff, and thanks, even if it gets removed.

I'll echo the others, Aliphatic, and say thanks. I prefer facts to the other stuff, and it is refreshing to read your comments. You are usually ahead of the curve.

Two things:

1) Curious as to what your thoughts are on South Korea? Specifically why they have such a low death rate as compared to us, given that Coronavirus was first detected in each country on the same day in January?

2) What do you expect in Florida? I believe JimmyZ is located in Cape Canaveral. Don't think he needs any advice from anybody, but do you have any insights for him?
