Spotted along the shoreline in South Nags Head...it appeared to be a mixed group of primarily pelicans, sea gulls and cormorants...probably numbering several thousand... lacking proper terminology I'll call this a swarm...they appeared to be having a feeding frenzy of some sort just outside of the breakers... they could have been feasting on something the commercial fishing vessels in the area had dumped, or some other type of small organism?... for those who enjoy waterfowl the amateur video will give you a glimpse of this impressive bit of nature... best wishes to all for a peaceful and bountiful Thanksgiving... youtu.be/t6U1_som6y8

Was anyone out there fishing? That's quite a flock. Hard to tell but it appears a bait ball (menhaden) is under them. Nice.

I was fishing this morning in SNH. I did not see that flock, but there were quite a few pelicans and cormorants feasting on small baitfish. You could see the bait flicking the surface all up and down the beach and from the shore to 3-4 full casts out. I only caught small blues on fresh mullet. The dolphins were plentiful as well.

hatterasnc....there were some folks fishing in the area, but I did not see any catches... reminiscing a little, whatever happened to the amazing blue fish blitzes that were not uncommon until maybe 10-15 years ago? if you ever saw one, or fished one, you'd never forget it... it seemed like whatever was in the water yesterday would have been perfect for one of those blitzes...

Nice. hatterasnc Had them in Ocracoke on the 22nd and yes they were menhaden. with nothing on them, except the birds. Here is a picture from a few years ago in Ocracoke that was loaded with puppy drum
