The 2021 Lost Colony

The Lost Colony Play has been a big attraction for many visitors since it started in 1937. As a local resident I have seen it every year since 1975. Attended the free Residents performance last Friday. For anybody who has not seen it go, its such a big part of the Outer Banks and its History. However, for those who have seen it, especially multiple times you may be surprised and walk out wondering what you just saw. Without giving away script or story line here are some highlights or closer to "Lowlights". First and foremost the Old Tom Character has been relegated to the Ensemble. A 5 member Drum Line playing College Marching Band Cadences makes you feel like a College Football Game. It's supposed to be 1587. All Religion has been removed from scenes. A "Bellydancer" sends off the Colony from England. Actually she needs a Pole, it would be more interesting. Lastly, all but one Indian Fight Scene have been removed. Death and Hardships are depicted by Puppets. Music has gone Broadway or Hollywood with "Period" sounding music essentially eliminated. Creative, I guess so! For and old timer I would not go again. Go see it and make your own decision.

I heard it was absolutely
ridiculous and warned away.

RE: The 2021 Lost Colony

No thanks!!!!
I’ll remember it the way it was.
I was looking forward to introducing my grandkids to (what was) a wonderful tradition. How very sad!
I guess we have to come to grips with the fact that everything we’ve all loved about the outer banks is disappearing at an exponential rate.

Thanks for the warning, Pickle.
My mom always went to the free showing for locals. She loved it!
She’d be like you and never go again if she’d seen what you saw.

RE: The 2021 Lost Colony

This thread should be on the main forum to warn others. Maybe if people don’t pay to go see this monstrosity they will get the message and bring back the much beloved traditional production.

RE: The 2021 Lost Colony

Sorry the show disappointed, how was the fishing? Big grin
Just kidding, I was surprised to see the in the fishing section.

Broadway Team Helmed By Jeff Whiting Reimagines THE LOST COLONY
The updated production features a dynamic new symphonic score by composer Sam Davis and other theatrical staging elements.

by Chloe Rabinowitz Jun. 7, 2021

"America's longest running outdoor drama, The Lost Colony, has been newly reimagined by Director Jeff Whiting (Big Fish, Scottsboro Boys) and a creative team of Broadway professionals, bringing the production's 84th Season to life in a brand new way.

The updated production features a dynamic new symphonic score by composer Sam Davis (Beauty and the Beast, American in Paris) and other theatrical staging elements, including puppet design by Nicholas Mahon (2018 Winter Olympics), scenic design by Emmy winning designer Jason Ardizzone-West (Jesus Christ Superstar), and costume design by Mariah Anzaldo Hale (A Bronx Tale)."

Long article with lots of details.

GET WOKE, SHOVE AN ICE PICK INTO YOUR FRONTAL LOBE....does that rhyme?

RE: The 2021 Lost Colony

Who asked Broadway to do a 'refresh'? And why? This is an historical reenactment, not a dinner theater show to fluff somebody's ego.
