RE: So glad to be back, but the house was dirty sadly

7PM???!

That is just ridiculous. Stop passing your staffing shortgaes on to the guy who foots the bill.

Outer Beaches also has 8 AM check out time!

Yes, 7 pm is ridiculous and yes, you truly are only getting 6 days instead of 7. If you take into account that you need to take more time to sufficiently pack/clean Friday night bc have to be out of the house by 8 am Saturday, you are also losing more vacation time.

We’re going back next summer, but are going with another company. Check out for them is 10 am, which is better for us. I also think giving families a little more time on checkout day allows for the potential of them to be able to do more tidying up.

The claim that these times needed to be implemented bc of extra Covid cleaning was bogus in our case. We actually saw the two cleaners come at 4:15 and leave an hour later- and the house was not even close to a normal level clean. Disappointing.

It’ll be interesting to see the differences next year if there are any. I wish you all the best with your rental! Fingers crossed for a wonderful stay!!

We did call the rental company this morning. Outer Beaches. They were very apologetic and offered to have someone come out to reclean but since my daughter and I did a thorough job Saturday night and yesterday we did not feel it was necessary. We also have our stuff set out, so…The gentleman I spoke to said he would report the disappointing condition we came into. The supervisor- who was supposed to check after the cleaning crew came- never showed up. I truly feel had they done so, they would have called back for a redo in the bathrooms at the least. We’re not going to let this affect our week too negatively, but did want them to know. I haven’t experienced this before, so I’m sure the low staffing and high number of houses is to blame, but it still was very much a bummer at first.

We are renting from Outer Beaches for the first time in a few weeks. I am a little nervous that the guaranteed check-in time is only 7 p.m., so I'm glad to hear some people are getting in earlier.

We are trying to figure out if we should alter our normal travel plan from NJ. We should leave around 4:30 a.m., cross the Wright Bros. bridge around 1, stop somewhere for lunch and then get into our KDH rental around 4. Between reports of increased traffic this year, the extra drive down to H.I., and the later check-in times, I'm not sure when to leave.

We also come from NJ. We usually leave Friday night about 7pm when my husband gets home from work and stay at a friends house overnight. Leave Saturday morning from their house about 9am stop at Morris farmers market and get to the Wright memorial bridge about noon. Because of Covid we didn’t stay with them last year and we won’t stay with them this year either. Our plan is to leave NJ about 4:00 am Saturday Sept 4th and with couple stops for gas and farmers market should be at the Wright memorial Bridge about noon.

Yeah, not leaving before 10:30 at the best. They can call the police, I don't care.

RE: So glad to be back, but the house was dirty sadly

It's not just this year - about 5 or 6 years ago we arrived at our rental about 7pm and were dismayed at the cleanliness. One bed had a medication capsule in the sheets, there was a fully-popped piece of popcorn in the middle of the common room floor, and the entire dining room table was sticky, among other things. We called the PM and they got another crew out quickly and they did a thorough job.

Sort of on the same subject, can I ask owners to NOT buy front-loading washing machines for their rentals? They are notorious for mold and odors unless they are clean-cycled regularly and the doors left open.

RE: So glad to be back, but the house was dirty sadly

We wanted to do this, for our (allowed) dog hair and the sand, but all cleaning supplies and the vacuum were locked up or not there. They should at least leave a broom out.

Thanks for all the suggestions!! To the Harbor House we will go! Lol! Then maybe for fudge. I’m going to gain 10 lbs this week!

Regarding the house situation, I do feel so bad for the owners of these places if they aren’t cleaned well after each guest. If they knew/saw what we did upon arriving I’m sure their hearts would have sunk. We made up for it though! Lol It’s smelling/looking good for the week. We just put into gear our inner Monica Bing (Friends reference here) and got it done! Thanks everyone for your help!

Maybe my wife and are the only one's who do it but we do a light cleaning the night before we leave. Its doesn't take long, run the vacuum cleaner, wipe down dirty surfaces etc.... Maybe spend 30 minutes total. Then again we are not pigs, we don't cart in loads of sand and make a mess of the house. We have been on the short end of good cleanings in the past. We figure what we do might help the next renters. I'm willing to bet a few cleaners have been to our rentals and thought a cleaning crew must have come in already Lol

RE: So glad to be back, but the house was dirty sadly

A co-worker went down a couple of weeks ago and said the house she and her family rented had not been cleaned well. She called the property manager and they sent two college age kids over. Said they were goofing around and not doing very much cleaning, even with her there. I'm not sure which realty company she used, but it sounds like some of them are getting desperate to find help in this field. Never dreamed something this simple would become a common problem.

At least they're not blaming it on Covid cleaning procedures. They are admitting it's due to staffing shortages. This is from their web site:

"Human resource limitations on the Outer Banks have presented new struggles we’ve previously not encountered. Check-in times could be as late as 7 p.m. While we estimate most of our homes will be done sooner, we still want to make you aware that this season is a bit different than normal and we’re doing our best to clean our homes as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience."

I'm sure they allow for some of the special people that can't abide by the rules. And if they want to will just charge your CC. It's in your contract if you bother to or or able to read it.

RE: So glad to be back, but the house was dirty sadly

If you need a 10:00 checkout rent from a company that has a 10:00 checkout. And if you need an early check in some places allow that as well for a small fee.

RE: So glad to be back, but the house was dirty sadly

Pudge, per the website the last two paragraphs allude to CDC cleaning requirements. I know it’s a tough summer. Truthfully the late entry wouldn’t have bothered me as much IF I had entered into a thoroughly cleaned - even less than Covid protocols- home.

“Check-in times could be as late as 7 p.m. While we estimate most of our homes will be done sooner, we still want to make you aware that this season is a bit different than normal and we’re doing our best to clean our homes as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience.

We ask that you please check-out by 8 a.m. A departure email with check-out procedures will be sent before you leave. We ask that you please ignore any literature at the home that follows our pre-COVID-19 procedures.

We understand that these new time frames present new challenges for you and your traveling party. This extra time will allow our Team to safely enter, clean, and follow new cleaning procedures as recommended by the CDC for best industry practice

Seems to me you feel entitled to special treatment. This isn't the first time you have posted, acting privileged, and expecting something extra.

I think you either need to find an all inclusive resort or purchase your own home.

If you decided you were going to dictate when you left my home to myself or the pm, it would be the last time you were a guest in my house, and most likely, through that pm.

Two words: Charge Back. If the PM wants to battle with guests over obscene check out times, and sully their rep with the credit companies, so be it. I won't be the one that loses in that fight. They will.

Also, haven’t been, but have friends who have to a new restaurant The Cockeyed Clam and very positive reports.

The Cockeyed Clam? Oh dear. Mind running wild with inappropriate t-shirt/logo images. I should clean my mind out with soap.

RE: So glad to be back, but the house was dirty sadly

we've gotten where we don't like renting a house with carpet, theres no way you can clean them very well. We bring a swiffer with us to clean the floors with and haven't had a house yet where the first few swiffer cloths weren't super dirty brown.

RE: So glad to be back, but the house was dirty sadly

So true about the carpet! We were kicking ourselves for not throwing a swiffer in the car. We ended up buying a mop and floor cleaning solution while there. The vacuums, brooms, mops, other stuff they had at this house was pretty sad. Especially the vacuum. Oh well, my daughter now has a new apartment mop so it’s all good. I think I’d put all engineered flooring in a beach house if I had one. So much easier to keep up.

Hmmmm, come to think of it, having our own house would solve the dilemma of check in and out times, too! smiley

You should stop renting in the outerbanks in protest that will teach them
