Nothing like starting a new Project Clueless...

Finally getting around to integrating the great old Winnebago Chieftain I bought a couple of years ago to explore the OBX with into my ICW compound project. For the life of me I cannot figure out why my cranking battery keeps draining dead. Of course there are a couple of controls on the panel regarding battery power that I am clueless about.

There are two deep cycles and one cranking battery. Anyone know what these are for? Anyway, I know this isn't an RV forum but lots of travelers here so I figured I'd ask.

Anyways, got the RV port up next to the Pier with 30 amp shore power ran....

Guessing the switch on the left selects which battery to connect to a meter that shows its charge. The one on the right might select 2 batteries - mom might mean Momentary? Not sure

You are correct the right one IS a momentary switch when you rock it to the right but when you rock it left it stays. There was an "incident" I neglected to mention. The 86 year old PA Dutchie (Great guy) I bought the RV from came over to see how I was doing before we moved and went into the RV mumbling and came out and said "I forgot what I was gonna tell ya, I'll be right back". He drove off waving and never returned. The next day I came into the RV to find a missing rocker switch that starts the generator. lol Now this old guy took immaculate care of this RV, rubber spacers between all the hoses, waxed and polished generator paint, the whole 9 yards. Typical PA Dutch. I think the poor old chap is in the home stretch and I'd rather jump off a bridge than go and confront him on it. Chances are this has something to do with it.

I can't help you with the Winnebago wiring, I hate wiring after I had to redo everything on my 30' flybridge boat, but I just got to say you sure are juggling a lot of balls. OMC (!!!) outboards, running sailboats through the OI, building docks on the ICW, and now Winnebago wiring? Keep having fun BF! I love it!

Pier is coming along too! Only now I have hernia surgery next week after blowin a hose building the damn thing.... Party Got the gang built out to the pier and half the decking. The rest will have to wait for my guts to heal.

Thanks for putting a smile on my face ladies! Cheers

RE: Nothing like starting a new Project Clueless...

why my cranking battery keeps draining dead.

Maybe (assuming you have 120v an extension cord length away) use a tender while looking for the source. Assume you've 100% had the battery checked out? You've checked every inch of the interior at night for a light to be "left" on? Aftermarket radio/amps seeping to ground? Schit like this drives me bonkers - one car just lives on a tender, gave up trying to sort it.

PS: dock looks effing awesome - good luck with the surgery
PPS: Don't push the rehab - a redo is brutal....

Cant help with the RV thing but have to echo what others have said. I enjoy your adventures and misadventures. Hope you feel better real soon but listen to the restrictions or you will have to repeat the procedures. Keep us posted!

I thought you were going to sail to the Faroe Islands??

RE: Nothing like starting a new Project Clueless...

I have found the folks on the RV Forum Community to be very helpful. Some of the members have post counts in the high 5 figures. Not only do they have a Motorhome discussion section also available is a separate Winnebago discussion section.

Apparently you haven't been following by boat woes...She's still on the hard after 4 months and a 4k bill paid... waiting for parts after trying to put back in a couple weeks ago. On top of that I have equipment to install once I get her home. ...and a sail to repair and safety equipment to consider, etc. We're talking about the North Atlantic dude .... In the mean time I can't just sit on my ass. How much time does a man have before he drops dead, ya know? If your impatient I could use a hand. Just sayin. (; Did I mention I have Hernia surgery next Friday? LOL Cut a brother some slack!

Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
