Location? That’s important because the distance from the plant is of concern. Approximately 10 CY roll in a mixer but has a limited window of opportunity for use.

RE: Cement Contractor Recommendations

Our place is in Duck. What does “CY” stand for?

RE: Cement Contractor Recommendations

Cubic Yard. Will cover an area 81 square feet if 4" thick

Anyone knows what concrete is going for around Manteo?

I'm not sure about that area but we've seen increases of 15% on all Portland products this year already.

You will want to look at concrete contractors. If you are adding on, no less than 6" (4000 PSI) thickness on a firm base. Reinforced with welded wire mesh, and doweled into the edge of your existing drive at no less than 16" On Center.

Good luck in your hunt.

Yes, get a contractors advise on the paving section. (Thickness of slab on top of graded aggregate base) In a water environment I would ask about adding fiber to the Cocrete mix. It performs better than wire mesh especially in a salty area. If you want a bullet proof slab add epoxy coated rebar, number 4 bars, 16” on center. And as mentioned doweled into any existing slabs. That’s one heck of a slab specification.

RE: Cement Contractor Recommendations

On the sand I would make sure they use rebar AND welded wire and as stated min of 6 inches. We had a guy who did great work and was reasonably priced at our property on Knotts Island. He's kind of an out of area guy (which could be good) but he may be willing to make the trip off season. Call Clifton @ CS Concrete 757 652 4204

First step is to look at your survey (you do have one, right?) and check the current lot coverage. The concrete addition will increase the lot coverage. If you go over the limit for your local jurisdiction, you may be told to tear out all that expensive work.

This is not something you'd want to roll the dice on the town/county just ignoring if you get it wrong.

or and square that is 9ft. X 9ft.

I am in KDH. I used this guy to increase the size of my driveway and was very happy with the quality of the work, communication and responsiveness of the owner, Aaron. Highly recommend.

We are dealing with the lot coverage issue right now. We have a remodel project where we are not stepping outside of our house footprint. In order to get a building permit from Dare County we first had to get a new survey done to the tune of $800.00. The survey shows we are 110 square foot above the allowed lot coverage. From the original 30 year old survey I can see where the original owners of this property installed additional concrete driveway. It looks like we will be removing 110 SF of driveway and replacing concrete with some TBD permeable material in order to get the occupancy permit once construction is complete. Not a big undertaking just more money being spent.

Good point about the survey.

There may be set back distances which prohibit improvements within a defined distance from the property line. Again, a knowledgeable contractor will be cognizant of that and guide you accordingly.

Thank you all for your input! I very much appreciate it!

Good luck with your search. Feel free to PM me if you need any help. Technical, that is. My bull floating days are long over.

I asked a friend that does a lot of work on my house who he uses for concrete work. Need my driveway redone. Island Concrete.
