Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

If Wawa brought some price competition to the price fixing OBX gas retailers having another gas station might not be so bad.
I thought the Harris Teeter fuel center would do that but they have some of the highest prices on the beach. Car

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

Interesting. I am not sure we need more gas stations, banks or pharmacies.

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

This would be a game changer for OBX. Wawa is probably the single biggest best idea ever thought of in American history. Royal Farms, Sheetz - meh.

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

What's the gas price down there? It's $3.39 in northern MD.

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

The justification for rejecting their variance request for the first Wawa in NC is bizarre.

It's not like there aren't several driveways right off the highway (Enterprise/Speedway/Kangaroo/etc) a couple hundred yards away.

There's literally a turn-in to what will be the Target directly across the street from this. Right off the highway. Confused smiley

You are so correct. Wawa blows them all away.

The Outer Banks could use some Wawa TLC.

KDH is trying to prevent ANY MORE entrances off the bypass from being built. Just because long existing businesses have entrances off the bypass doesn't mean new businesses will be able to do the same. Now, the new 7-11 in KH has 2 entrances from the bypass with dedicated turning lanes. AND an entrance just after you turn onto Woods Rd.

I would suggest a Wawa is a large enough operation you would need one entry way from the bypass with a turning lane AND also another one from 4th street. If I was Emperor I would restrict the bypass entrance to only Southbound traffic. If you were approaching from the South you'd have to turn left on 4th, then left into Wawa. This is just like the entrance into the "old" 7-11 at KH road. If you are driving Northbound on the Bypass, you can not just enter from the bypass. You have to turn at KH Rd, then left into 7-11. Just my opinion.

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

I agree with "Biker". However, do you all realize it would be next door to Speedway (Old Hess Station) and only two or three lots from Kangaroo on the next corner, Come on now, Couldn't they build a White Castle?

I saw $3.24 in Kitty yesterday.

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

Up in Kitty Hawk at the old Foreman lumber site would be a better place for Wawa (or White Castle).

Not bad at all (relatively speaking). That's 15 cents below the nat'l average which stands at $3.39 right now.

It's too bad Wawa stations have such a big footprint. I could see them on the NW corner of the new Target at the traffic light.

That's where the new Hardee's and Popeye's will be going to - I hope.

Man! I'd vote for that!

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

Wawa's business model is barely profit on gas to drive traffic into their market/deli. Brilliant. Get the meatball it'll change your life.

Tim, that's a good idea! That lot has been vacant a long time!

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

I've never understood the devotion to Wawa they have up here. It's OK, and a step above a 7-11, but it's nothing special. I'll get lunch from there when I fill up, mainly because of the convenience. Order on the app and they bring it right out to the pump. Their gas prices have been a lot more in line with other stations around them lately. They used to be a good bit lower, but not anymore. Weis is the lowest right now in our area.

I have no problem with Wawa in the Outer Banks though. I'm betting it would do a good business and is a good option for lunch.

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

I live about a mile from a Royal Farms {a Wawa wannabee }and the amount of trash these places produce is amazing .People just toss everything out the window while driving down the road . I am not saying that large stores such as this are the only culprits but it just keeps getting worse all the time !

That’s basically the model of all convenience stores with pumps. I’ll have to stop in the Wawa on my way to VA next weekend and see what the fuss is about. It’s been years since I stopped at one in Richmond. As long as they sell gas, ice, and beer then they get an A. I’ve not gotten excited about a convenience store before except when Sheetz came to my town and created a gas war for a few weeks. It would be nice to see the lot used for something other than a gas station.

Don't set your expectations to high. It's a OK meatball sub...My favorite is only sold around Thanksgiving. The hot turkey gobbler. Yummm.

I'm curious about the White Castle talk. Are they even expanding? We don't have many around here anymore. My Mom loves them (she's from Indiana), so we'd take her when she visited because there are none in NC.

It's not the stores fault their customers are slobs.

RE: Wawa possibly eyeing KDH store location

How many of these massive stores do we need ? I know in my area of the Land of Pleasant Living ...Aka Delamarva ....it seems the plan is to have a Royal Farms or WaWa at every intersection on Rt 13 , Rt 113 , Rt 50 , Rt 404 ,Rt 313 on and on ! It just seems crazy , what did we do 20 years ago ? Royal Farms does have some good chicken and WaWa has good subs but the trash tossed out the window is just shameful as it is with Mikey D's and all the rest of them ! Can common sense prevail?

When South Philly Italians say they have good meatballs that means they're good meatballs. And I'm no South Philly Italian.

I prefer to taste for myself, thanks. I have. Nothing special. They are good, but I've had better. Sorry if I didn't join your group think...
