WinterLights

I have reservations at 6:00 PM this Saturday for WinterLights at the Elizabethan Gardens and am looking to book a dinner reservation at Blue Moon in Nags Head afterwards. To those who have been to WinterLights, about how long should I allow?

Thanks.

It's hard to say. It depends on how much you like lighted gardens. You could probably get through it in 15 minutes at a fast walk, if you wanted to. Then, there's a gift shop I believe, and some of you might want to spend a lot of time there. The weather will determine how many people show up, and the more people there, the more time it will take to get parked, get into the gardens, and then get back out. If you plan on taking a lot of photos, add more time for that.

I would say 90 minutes, with maybe 30 of that for the drive to Blue Moon and time spent on site but not in the gardens. But there are just too many variables with unknown times, including Saturday night traffic. I'd say you should be back in your car leaving with 30 minutes left minimum. This will be a difficult event to manage down to the minute.

Let me know how it worked out time-wise.

Our last lights visit was pre-Covid.

RE: WinterLights

WinterLights was great. The weather yesterday evening was perfect, not too warm and not too cold. We were one of the first few in. It was a very pleasant experience.

I spoke to the folks at Blue Moon before I headed out to Nags Head and I opted to forego the reservation, thinking that with the new spacious restaurant and the fact that we were not arriving til after 7:00 in November, we could certainly handle a short wait. Surprisingly, we were told the wait would be an hour and fifteen minutes. I cannot imagine how long the wait would have been in the old place. We instead drove down the road to eat at Tortugas and we were seated immediately. I'll be back in January and will certainly place a reservation for Blue Moon then.

Glad you enjoyed Winterlights. We plan to go Friday evening, coming down tomorrow.

Please let us know what you think of the new Blue Moon layout when you do go. I have not been since 2018 and I only just found out this year that they moved to a bigger spot.
