Buxton maybe late 70's

My family recently sent this to me. It was taken from the Falcon in Buxton

Cool. Down south, and most people don't know this, KFC offers fried chicken livers. I wonder if the Buxton location did.

RE: Buxton maybe late 70's

My memory isn't as sharp as it used to be, but my recollection was that the KFC was there in the late 60's to early 70's. The original KFC building is now the Diamond Shoals restaurant. Those were the days...what an awesome time to be on Hatteras. Thanks for sharing that pic.

I remember when that opened. ( 77-78?) That was a big deal to get a bucket of chicken and sides to take out on the beach or on the pier.

Wow! I don't remember that... the Flacon Motel, yes but not the KFC. Thanks for sharing the pic. Always enjoy seeing older pictures of locations anywhere on Hatteras.

KFC was there in the early '70s... Anyone else recall the "Lighthouse" Restaurant, located around where Fox Watersports now sits, that burned down around '72 or '74 (I think)?

Yes I do remember that restaurant and one vivid memory of it remains with me. We were camping at the Park Service campground in Buxton and a fierce storm came through one night in summer of 1974. It knocked down every tent and left the campsites looking like a pond. Not a stich of dry clothes could be found . We were wet and cold and wandered into the Lighthouse Restaurant for some hot coffee and breakfast and the waitress staff all had hair netting and looked very maternal. They just looked at us, a bunch of soggy young 20 year olds, held our hands and said they would pray for us Pray

I ate there once. I was poor back then. I saved my money for bait and ice.

RE: Buxton maybe late 70's

Most of us were poor back then. When we camped, our main meals consisted of peanut butter, Tang (do you remember that!), the fish that we caught and of course BEER In love

OK....Here's one that predates my recollections...
Ann (Jennette) Hodges once described to me a "bar" or beer joint in Buxton located somewhere on the ridge where the mini golf , ice cream parlor, or maybe Falcon Motel or whatever it's current name is, sits..... She said the locals of it's time called it "The Bucket of Blood"... obviously it was well before my time, or i probably would have had a story to tell.... Can ANYONE provide any details on that 'legend' ? Maybe I''ll ask Carol Dillon...

DISCUSSED THIS WITH MS. CAROL DILLON, 90+ YO LIFELONG BUXTON RESIDENT.

There WAS such a place. She was quite specific and knowledgeable. It was located on the oceanfront in the vicinity of the motels at the north end of Buxton.. She stated that her father built (and apparently owned) it. He hired other local resident(s) to operate the place, and it was at the time the only oceanfront structure in the area. She described it as a "dance hall where they sold beer"... and said the patrons included people from Buxton, Avon and the surrounding area, including Locals , Visitors, Coast Guard, and govt employees who were working at the "New Deal" CCC Camp. {That would have put the time frame in the EARLY 1930's, definately pre WWII...) It was commonly called and known only as "The Bucket of Blood" and she mentioned no other name...

Had to be the place to be seen in Buxton Saturday evenings. (Wonder what "Band" played the place ?)
